He gives me a beseeching stare. “I just want you to feel comfortable.”

“I am fine,” I say gently as I turn back to the marble counter to continue preparing the breakfast, leaving no room for arguments on this matter. “Now don’t distract me and let me cook. I am starving.”

“Need any help?”

“Just set the table, please, while I prepare,” I say as I begin to chop the vegetables.

“Okay.” Saying that, he moves to the further end of the kitchen, opening the cupboards.

“Ouch!” I whimper when I feel a stinging sensation on my index finger. I look down at my finger bleeding.Damn! How can I be such a klutz?

“What happened?” I look up to see Ranveer standing in front of me.When did he get here?

“N… nothing,” I reply as I try to hide my finger behind my back but it is too late.

I watch as he takes a look at my finger before looking back at me. Before I know what’s happening, he lets go of my hand and holds my waist with his hands on either side. I let out a sudden yelp when he lifts me off the ground and makes me sit on the counter.

“Don’t move from here. I’ll be back,” he instructs me, as he leaves the kitchen.

I remain paralysed, unable to move from my spot, revelling in the sensations that are still running through my body because of his touch. A few minutes later, he enters the kitchen with a first aid box in his hands. Placing the box down, he stands in between my legs and pulls out a cotton swab while I feel my heart rate speed up.

“It might burn a bit.” His eyes hold a touch of concern.

I nod my head, unable to form words as he tends to my wounds. His hands are rough and calloused, but his touch is light and opens the comforting flow of energy in my body.

“All done.”

“T… thank you...” I mumble. I can feel my face heat up.

“You’re welcome. Feeling better now?” he asks, still holding onto my fingers.

“Y... yes... just a slight stinging sensation.”

My eyes widen when he brings my finger to his mouth and then kisses it. His eyes gaze at me intensely and his mouth twists into a humourless smile as he regards me.

“Feeling better now?” he asks again.

“Y… yes... please excuse me. I need to go. If not, I will be late,” I say before gently pushing him as I hop off the counter.

I hear him chuckle when I dash out of the kitchen.

Damn... this guy! He’s making me lose my mind!

???

“You still on your mobile, Dad.” I smile, walking into my parents’ kitchen.

It’s been an hour since I came at my parents’ place. Dad lifts his head from his mobile and smiles as I slide on the seat next to him, leaning my head on his shoulder.

“I was just checking about bringing in some new menu for the bar,” he says, tenderly pressing a kiss on my head as he wraps his arm around my shoulders.

“How is the bar doing?”

He lets out a frustrated breath. “It’s still slow. Maybe a new menu will revitalise the business, optimise our selling power, and persuade new customers.”

I lift my head from his shoulder so that I can look at him. “That’s a great idea. I was also thinking that after my boutique in the evening, I could drop by the bar and help you.”

“No, I don’t want you there.” Irritation instantly fills his features.
