She came with two cups of coffee in her hand. A cute frown formed on her face when she saw her plate set beside mine. She gave me the coffee and hesitantly sat beside me. I sipped the coffee and almost moaned. She makes the best coffee in the world.

From my peripheral vision, I saw her digging into the meal with enthusiasm. A satisfactory smile tugged at my lips. She is so real. She doesn’t hide the fact that she likes food, unlike other women who starve themselves to be in shape. This is one of the many things I like about her.

“I know you wanted to handle breakfast, but with my meeting lined up, I thought it will give me more time with you rather than you cooking. I hope you okay with it,” I uttered.

“Of course.”

The rest of the breakfast was done while we engaged in small talks about our likes and dislikes. Talking to her is so easy and comfortable. I can get used to this for the rest of my life. After eating breakfast and placing the empty plates in the sink, she turned towards me.

Before she could say anything, I stepped towards her and spoke, “I will miss you. See you in the evening, Wifey.” I smiled as I couldn’t resists the temptation and kissed her on her cheek. So much for keeping my distance from her and giving her space. However, I needed this bit to keep me going through the day.

Her eyes widened and a blush covered her cheek at my sudden action. Hell, the way she smiled, the way she looked at me, and that blush that made her cheeks go all crimson; what I wouldn’t give to make sure that blush stays on her face. Loving someone like crazy is really tough; I could feel it in my bones.

“I… I need to go,” she shuttered and fled out of the kitchen.

I grinned as I made way to my car. And all I could think was getting back to her. God! Let this day not drag. I can’t wait to come back home to my wife.

My musing is interrupted by the sound of a phone ringing on my office desk. Looking down at the caller, I notice my grandpa’s name flash on the screen. I roll my eyes, thinking he must be calling me to give me a lecture about my frame of mind on my marriage. Little does he know that I am hundred percent in this, like never before. Knowing I can’t avoid this call, I answer.

“How is my daughter-in-law?” I hear his deep baritone.

That’s the first thing Grandpa asks when I answer the call. No warm greetings, no hello, nothing. Yet, his concern for Alisha doesn’t annoy me, instead, it makes me happy to see that Grandpa dotes on her. She sure is special, making a place in everyone’s heart.

“Well, I am doing good, Grandpa, thanks for asking,” I answer with a sarcastic grin.

“Shush! Stop throwing tantrums like a baby. It’s been three days since your wedding, and you haven’t shown your face yet. So, I wanted to check if you still feel the same about Alisha and looking for a way out of the marriage. I mean, if you are still unhappy, maybe I can help you out.”

That wipes off my grin. “I am happy with my marriage and am not divorcing my wife if that’s what you want to know, Grandpa.” My voice is clipped and angry. How can he ask such a question? I am fucking carrying my heart on my sleeve. Can’t he see that? I thought he always knew me better than I know myself, and he would be the first one to notice the feelings I have for Alisha.

Grandpa lets out a laugh. “You know, Son, I have my way of keeping track of the things that’s going on in my grandson’s life. The way you have been with her of late has not gone unnoticed.”

That’s when my gaze goes to the clenched fist on the desk, which I now relax a bit. “Please don’t joke about it again. That’s something I don’t ever want to consider.”

“Is she that important to you?”

God! I hate lying to him. “Yes.” The word slips from my mouth easily.

“I knew she would win your heart, Son, and make you fall in love with her.”

“It’s impossible not to fall in love with her. She is sweet, caring, and amazing. And married life is better than I ever expected,” I say those words without even thinking, realising it was so easy for the words to flow. Alisha is everything that I always wished to have in my woman. Maybe that was why I had this urge to strengthen our bond and protect her.

“I am happy for you, Son.” I can feel the joy in his voice. “Does she feel the same for you?” There. All the enthusiasm evaporates in a jiffy, hearing his puzzled tone.

“No,” I growl. A sense of helplessness invades my gut. I still haven’t made my wife fall in love with me, but I am working on it.

Grandpa responds, “Give her time, Son. It won’t be long before she sees you with loving eyes, as if her whole world revolves around you.”

“Hope so,” I reply, crossing my fingers that it doesn’t take long for her to see my feelings which are all over the place when I am with her. I wish Grandpa’s words come true. The truth is, I always wanted a family of my own but life happened, so I never dared to dream of it and kept running away from it.

“Did you disclose about your secret to Alisha?” Grandpa’s question sobers me up.

My face instantly loses its colour. I need to figure out how to tell Alisha about my past, but I am scared stiff. Somewhere down in my heart, I am terrified that after learning the truth, she will leave me.

“Not yet,” I answer, hoping that he lets go of this subject.

He pauses for a moment before speaking, “Ranveer, she needs to know. It’s not right to keep this away from her.”

“I am not insinuating that I wish to hide,” I retort.
