“And I told you I will do as I wish to,” I remind him. “I could have handled him on my own as well.”

“You sure know how to push my buttons. You are so damn infuriating,” he mumbles under his breath.

“Well, thank you. But what are you doing here, anyway? I don’t remember inviting you,” I ask as I step out of his hold and fold my hands over my chest.

“I came to pick up my wife,” he sighs audibly.

“I didn’t ask you to do so.”

“We are leaving.” He holds out his hands for me, but I shake my head.

“I came with Rewa, and I can’t leave her alone.”

“I’ll ask my driver to drop her at her place safely. We are leaving now,”he says. Holding me by my elbow, he begins to walk towards the exit, boiling with fury.

I don’t bother to fight him this time. I want to argue but bite my words because he is angry, and the last thing I want is for the volcano to erupt. It will only worsen the situation. Damn! So much for wishing to enjoy a night. What a killer joy of a husband he is.

Ranveer leads me out of the bar where his car is parked. He opens the passenger door for me. Once I slip in, he moves to the driver seat, settles in, and pulls the car out of the parking, driving us backhome. The car ride is awkwardly silent. It’s making my insides shrivel with anxiety, as it seems to be nothing but the silence before the storm. I huff and look out of the window while he keeps his attention on the road.

When we enter the house, I speak, “Ranveer, about tonight….”

He turns his dark eyes to me as he places his fingers on my lips. “Shh… We will discuss this tomorrow.” He then bends his head and kisses my forehead. “Good night.” Before I can react, he walks to his room.

I stand there numb. What just happened? Did he hit his head somewhere? This is not the kind of reaction I was expecting from Ranveer. This man never fails to surprise me. An involuntary smile erupts on my face. Looks like I am having a good influence on him. With that thought in mind, I enter my room.

After changing into my night dress and washing my face, I lie on my bed, snuggling into the warmness of the duvet. Soon, I feel my eyes turn heavy and sleep takes over.

Chapter 23

Ranveer

“Ranveer!” Alisha yells, and I let go of my necktie which I am adjusting as I look at the ceiling before letting out a long breath.

It’s eight in the morning, and I am getting dressed to attend a client meeting. The only reason for her to be on a rampage at this hour in the morning must be because she must have met the bodyguard that I hired for her. This for sure is not a hasty or overbearing decision of mine. I did warn her not to step into any bar without me, and I believed she agreed with me and was going to regard my request. But it seems like my gorgeous wife does not pay any heed to my concerns. It was two hours after I arrived at her Dad’s office when he casually mentioned about Alisha partying with Rewa at a nightclub to celebrate the boutique’s first anniversary. The thought that she failed to keep me in the loop about her whereabouts riles me. Is it that difficult for her to understand my concern?

As soon as I heard that, I had this unsettling feeling in me. I requested Alisha’s dad that I need to leave early so that I could pick her up myself. Even if she didn’t care about her safety, I did, and there was no fucking way I was taking a chance with her being at a crowded bar where they are drunk men who would surely make attempt to hit on her, assuming that she is single. The mere thought had my blood boiling.

My mind was losing it by the minute, and I didn’t want to explore the reason what if someone happened to flirt with her. All I could think about is the fact that I have to get to her as soon as possible.

After I arrived at the bar, I saw the asshole offering her a drink. There is no telling what would have happened if I wouldn’t have shown up. It took all my willpower not to grab him by his collar and beat the shit out of him. Alisha did freak out when her eyes landed on me, but soon, she masked a brave face. At that point, I should have known she wasn’t going to make it easy. It took five minutes to make her understand that no way in hell I would be leaving the bar without her.

I must admit this, even if she looks fragile like a porcelain doll, she is a strong-headed woman. It was such a relief when she didn’t put up a fight. Though I could see revolt written all over her face, she complied at the end. I ended up having her in my car and drove us home. When we reached home, I could feel my face hot with anger and my body expand. I wanted my mind to cool off, and that’s the reason I called it a night without having any discussion.

If it hadn’t been for my patience which I am trying to keep, I would have tied her to the bed for the stunt she’d pulled on me.

“Mr Ranveer Seth!” she yells again.

This time, I hear her stomping up the stairs. Instead of going to her, I walk to the couch in my room and plop down as I wait to see what happens. To my amusement, I don’t have to wait for long.

“Don’t you dare ignore me. You heard me calling your name,” she huffs, storming into my room, and coming to stand in front of me with her hands on her hips.

“It’s hard not to hear you when you’re yelling, Wifey,” I mutter flatly, leaning back on the couch, crossing one long leg over the other knee at the ankle.

“Don’t you dare ‘wifey’ me,” she growls, throwing her hands up in the air. “Bodyguard? Have you lost your mind? Why the hell do I need some stupid man trailing me around?”

“For your safety,” I say slowly, wondering if she is really so ignorant to not know the reason.

“No way in hell will I let you boss over me. You better tell that stupid bodyguard to go back to where he has come from,” she fumes, blowing a strand of hair out of her face.
