“Okay, listen. Loving someone is the most cherished feeling that you are lucky to experience. I understand that fighting for love can be challenging, but being in a relationship is not all sunshine. And giving up is not an option here when you have found the one who is made for you. Instead, you need to embrace the situation and hold on with everything you’ve got.” I open my mouth to speak, but he doesn’t let me do so. “Deep down in your heart, you know she is the one for you. It’s not something you have control over. I see the way you look at Alisha, and how your eyes light up. I bet your heart races even at the thought of her. That didn’t happen with any girl before, did it?”

I’m stunned, speechless. He just schooled me, and even though I hate to admit it, he’s right. “I never found anyone like Alisha.”

“Follow your heart, Ranveer. Make her fall in love with you. It’s not in your blood to accept defeat. Fight for your wife.”

“What if she doesn’t fall in love with me?” My eyebrows furrow, the fear in my voice prominent.

“She will eventually. Spend more time with her. If your love is true…”

A shriek of laughter interrupts us, and we both turn our eyes in Grandpa and Alisha’s direction.

“I won!” she exclaims, clapping her hands and jumping with joy.

She looks so happy and carefree. Her eyes shine with triumph. The sight of her takes my breath away, and I can’t tear my eyes from her jubilant face.

It’s not until I feel Akshay slap my shoulder and chuckle that I don’t bother acknowledging him. He must have understood the dismissal and takes his leave, but not before bidding adieu to Alisha and Grandpa.

Once he leaves, Grandpa and Alisha sit back on the chair as she begins to arrange chess pieces on the board, implying they are having a rematch. I don’t move from my spot as I continue to stare at her. Looks like my eyes are glued to her and refuse to follow any logical command. But it does come in handy, because that’s how I notice her covering her mouth to hide her yawn which suggests she must be sleepy while her other hand massages the sides of her neck. She is holding it back for Grandpa. Damn! She must be beat. That has me rising to my feet as I walk over to them.

She looks up when she senses me. A slow smile spreads over her mouth and spills into her eyes. She doesn’t even have to do anything special to make me happy. By just being herself, her smile, and her sweet voice make my heart so full.

I walk straight to her. Once I reach her, I bend down and place a kiss on her forehead. “I take it you won the game?”

“Yup, your wife beat me,” Grandpa points out, his face a bit grumpy while his eyes contradict and reflect how proud he is of Alisha.

“That’s my woman,” I say adoringly, as I straighten up to my full height and move to stand behind her and place my hands on her shoulders. My hands work upwards, moving gradually, as I massage every inch of the muscles on either side of her neck. Though I can feel her stiffening a bit and she looks at Grandpa a bit consciously, I don’t care a damn and continue.

Grandpa clears his throat. “So will you be staying for breakfast?”

“Sorry, Grandpa. I am beat and just want to go home and crash on my bed.”

He smirks. “That’s sad to hear. Alisha and I will miss you for breakfast,” he says with tongue in his cheek as he watches me, waiting for my reaction.

Wait! What? Is he saying what I think he is? She is staying back? As if reading my mind, Grandpa nods his head in affirmation.

Till I don’t hear it from her, I won’t believe it. Finding my voice, I ask her, “You staying?”

Alisha turns to look over her shoulder at me. “Yep.”

“Are you sure?” I clarify. I don’t want her to do anything out of obligation. Her happiness matters above everything else. I won’t let her feel harrowed in a situation like this, if it’s not what she wants. And if she is doing this only for Grandpa, then for sure I will find a way out without hurting either of them.

“Yes, Grandpa even agreed to try my cooking skills,” she answers with a huge grin that covers her face. I search her eyes for any discomfort, but there is zero hesitation.

“Can you ask her bodyguard to pick her up from here tomorrow?” Grandpa smirks, getting a rise from me. I am sure he very well knows the thought of me going back to an empty house doesn’t sit well with me.

“That won’t be required, I am staying too.”

“You are?” He raises his brows.

“Yup,” I simply answer. I can feel Alisha tense under my hands but she doesn’t say anything.

That’s when Grandpa’s phone rings. “I need to take this call. Why don’t you guys go to your room and rest? I shall see you both in the morning.”

“Good night, Grandpa.” We both say at the same time.

“Good night, kids,” he smiles and then heads to his room.

I walk in front of her and pull her up out of the chair.
