“Let’s go,” she murmurs, her eyes abundant with unsaid emotions.

Reluctantly, I release her and hold on to the steering wheel as I kick start the engine, driving through the city traffic towards the clinic.

???

As I sit in the chair next to Alisha, I clench my fists in an attempt to keep my temper in check, something that the doctor is making hard for me to do at the moment. Since the time we enter his clinic, his attraction to Alisha is evident. I will be surprised if I make it through the physical examination without breaking his teeth. Why the hell is everyone bent on pissing the shit out of me? First that dumbass and now this doctor.

“Everything looks fine, no broken bones,” the doctor says, while his head bent down on Alisha’s wrist, oblivious to the death glares I am sending his way.

Alisha glances up at me and gives me a reproving look which says, ‘I told you I am fine,’ but I turn a blind eye.

“I thought the same, but my husband insisted on getting it checked,” she responds while treating me with cold stares.

“Don’t worry about the marks. Those will fade in a day or two.” He looks up at her, smiling. “If you feel any pain or discomfort, I can probably prescribe you some medicines.”

“Either way, prescribe her painkillers,” I instruct, unable to stop myself from sounding authoritative.

He turns my way and his brows draw together as he nods, “I’ll pen down the painkillers.” After that, he focuses his attention back on Alisha. “Are you okay with taking an oral painkiller or would you rather I prescribe some ointment?”

“Doctor…” I snarl, and his eyes fly to me. “Can you please stop giving her options and just prescribe the medicine?”

Swallowing and nodding his head, he drops his gaze and gets to work. Thankfully, he’s quiet while he scribbles on his notepad and then hands us the prescription along with the suggestion of using an ice pack.

By the time we leave his clinic, it’s late, and Alisha looks drained. That’s the reason I messaged her dad saying that we won’t come at the bar tonight. I skipped the part about that asshole of a client and our doctor’s visit. No point making him panic when I am there to stand by her.

On the way, I stop at a drugstore and pick her prescriptions. Wasting no time, I give her a painkiller then and there. Once she has had it, I drive to our house. I guess only after I have her under my roof will I be at peace.

Chapter 30

Alisha

He’s driving me off my head. It’s been a while since we are back from the clinic, and he’s completely gone stark raving mad. Not that I have any expectation for him to do things logically. One thing I have come to learn is that driving me insane is what he is good at.

All I was hoping to do once we got back home was to fall into bed and sleep like a log. Unfortunately, that was so not on the cards for me. Instead, here I am, tied to the couch with an ice pack on my wrist while Ranveer slipped into the kitchen. Well, I am not literally tied, but my dear husband is not letting me move an inch from the couch till I don’t spend at least twenty minutes icing this Goddamn bruise. It’s been fifteen minutes of tolerating the icy sensations, and I am done. I can’t take this ice pack a minute longer; if not, I am sure to get a frostbite. I have my doubts if I even need this in the first place. Keeping the ice pack on the coffee table, I am about to rise to my feet when my husband’s voice halts my movement.

“Why did you remove the ice pack? You still have five more minutes to go,” Ranveer instructs, walking towards me, a mug of coffee in hand.

He hands me the mug as he takes his seat next to me on the couch. The aroma of coffee gives me a little boost. I guess that’s the only sane thing he did tonight.

“Wow! Just what I needed,” I say as I take a sip of the hot liquid, watching him over the rim.

“Did the ice pack relieve you a bit? If not, I can give you another painkiller,” he offers, his entire body filled with worry as his eyes move to my wrists.

Rolling my eyes, I reply, setting the coffee mug on the side table. “Ranveer, can you please take my word on this? I am fine. I had the painkiller only for your peace of mind, but honestly, I don’t need it. It’s just a bit of redness, which will be gone by morning. Stop stressing yourself.”

He looks up at my face. “I would still feel better if I would make that asshole pay for what he did to you.” His eyes cloud with concern and his voice has lost its edge.

“You just get a kick out of torturing people. Such a devil you are,” I tease, trying to make light of the situation.

A wry smile twists his face and he smirks. “You think I am a devil, huh?”

I nod in agreement. “But let me tell you a secret,” I say as I slide off the couch. “I do like it when you go all alpha on me, you know. It’s kind of hot.” I crouch down in front of him, noticing a flush crawl up his neck, across his face, and hide behind his flashing dark eyes.

“You do?”

“Yes, I do, but at the same time, I want you to have trust in me that I am capable of standing for myself. I would have handled that jerk,” I say until he chips in.

“But you don’t need to when I am there to stand up for you.”
