Aithan fished it from his pocket and held it out. “I told you I’d bring it to the gym tomorrow.”

Tobias took it but his gaze remained on me. “Yeah, I know.”

“But you couldn’t stay away,” Aithan murmured.

I patted the couch. “There’s room.”

Tobias slowly shook his head though his desire was obvious in his intense gaze and the way he adjusted his jeans before pocketing the phone. He shrugged and looked down. “As tempting as that is, and you are tempting me, Zel,” he met my gaze, “my daughter comes before my dick.”

I stood and grabbed his hands. “I totally respect that.”

A slow smile spread across his face. His eyes were bright, but he looked down again, bashful in a way that made me melt. “Thanks, lady, you’ve got a good heart to go along with that rockin’ body.” He drew me into a hug. Glancing over my shoulder, he said, “Come on, man, get some sugar.” Then Aithan’s arms were around me from behind.

“Awww. Friendwich.” I sighed. “This is nice.” The guys laughed.

From the landing of the stairs, a voice said, “What the hell, Zelda. You couldn’t bother to pick me up because you’re screwing a bunch of guys?”

Tobias jerked away. Aithan’s arms tightened around me.

Greer stood at the top of the stairs wearing a dark-green jumpsuit, her makeup and hair perfect.

Goddamn her timing.I sneered at her. “Did you consider knocking first?”

“Why should I? I have a key.” She shook her keyring at me.

“Remind me to kill Mom for giving you that. And we were hugging, not screwing. That comes after you leave.” I gestured to the guys. “Aithan Mazur and Tobias Peters, this is my half-sister Greer Gordon-Rosinski. She’s a pain in the ass and not staying.”

“Yes, I am,” she retorted.

“No. I told you no, Greer. You don’t get to make decisions for me. I’m not five anymore, and I’m sick of you not listening. I told you I had company. I told you I don’t want or need Tristan in my life. I told you to stay downtown.”

She glared at me, a host of emotions rolling across her beautiful face like Midwestern weather. Shock. Confusion. Annoyance. And, finally, defensiveness. She crossed her arms.

Tobias said, “And that’s my cue to leave.”

I touched his arm. “See you soon?”

He smiled softly and kissed my cheek. “Definitely.” He and Aithan bumped fists. “See you tomorrow morning, man.”

“Yep. Be ready to work hard. Burpees are on the plan.”

Tobias groaned. He pocketed his sister’s phone, nodded to Greer as he went around her, and disappeared down the stairs.

“Are you leaving or staying?” I asked Aithan as I went to the kitchen and put my glass on the counter.

“Whatever you want, beautiful.”

“Stay. Greer’s leaving.”

She gaped at me. “I am?”

“Yes. You have a room booked.”

Greer scowled. “How do you know that?”

“The fucking cab idling below my kitchen window is how I know that. I’m not an idiot, despite what you think. And I don’t need you here to handle my life.”

Her head cocked and she smiled smugly. “That’s not what Mom said.”
