“What happened in your life that you need to forget things so desperately, Anya?” He asked and I glanced over my shoulder at him, glad that I was wearing a t-shirt that covered my scar.

“That’s the point, Beau. I want to forget so I don’t have to talk about it. If you will excuse me, I now want to get away from you to think.” I said and walked out the door before he could stop me.

I headed in the opposite direction to the house, not wanting to run into Mama as she came back inside and deal with her emotions.

As I walked towards the back paddock, I noticed a rider heading towards me. As he got closer, I realized it was William on Trigger.

“Hey there little Filly.” He said with a wink, and I couldn’t contain the smile.

“Filly? Will, I am older than you.” I teased and he shrugged, swinging his leg over the saddle. I swallowed as I realized he was shirtless, sweat gleaming on his skin.

“You’re supposed to wear those, you know,” I said as I pointed at the shirt in his arms. He grinned.

“But how would you be able to see all my manly muscles then?” He said and I laughed.

“What muscles?” I teased back and he raised an eyebrow at me. We both stared at each other as he deliberately bunched his arms, making his biceps jump.

God, he was most definitely not a boy anymore and I had to stop myself from reaching out to touch them. I wondered what my tongue would look like running along every inch of him.

So, sue me, I had a thing for men’s arm muscles, and Damien, though he wasn’t lacking, was gym fit not hard work fit and there was a huge difference.

William’s grin widened and I realized I had been standing there, staring like a horny teenage girl. His chest puffed up as he stood taller, and I almost rolled my eyes before he offered me the shirt.

“Ahh, thanks but I don’t need your shirt. I’m not that kinky.” I said and he shook his head.

“As much as I would love to discuss how kinky you are, I’m not giving you my shirt. Look inside.” He said and I stared at the shirt again, seeing it move. I glanced at him before I pulled the shirt open to see a little joey inside.

“His mama got tangled in the fence and didn’t make it. I thought you could take him so I can get back out there and help Wyatt.” He said softly and I nodded, taking the sweet little thing.

“Mrs. Hart will have the number for the vet to come out and check on him.” He said as he leaned down to touch its face.

“I can get a towel so you can have your shirt back,” I said.

“No need. I’ll grab a new one. This one touched his mama so her smell will still be there for him. Besides, I like the idea of you keeping my shirt.” He said with a wink before he headed to the back door of the house.

I watched him go, admiring his back as he went before looking down at the joey in my arms.

“Well then. Let’s see what we can do for you.”

Ihurriedbacktothe house, the smell of roast meat beckoning me inside as I opened the front door. It had been a hard day, but the fence was repaired, and we were ready to move the herd tomorrow.

“Why the hell is there a rat in your arms?” Damien's voice echoed through the house, and I cringed.

I hated that guy. I hadn’t missed the glares that Beau kept sending his way either. Something about him didn’t sit well with me and I had no idea why Anya would want to be with a guy like that.

“It isn’t a rat, Damien. He is a kangaroo. He needs to eat so I’m feeding him.” Anya replied as I came around the corner to see Anya with the joey still in my shirt, Damien glaring at it like it owed him money and Mrs. Hart smiling as she opened the oven.

“Can't you put it outside and let it eat the grass or something? Where is it going to sleep?” He said and she glared at him.

“He is going to sleep on your side of the bed if you don’t shut up.” She snapped before looking back down at the joey as she fed it a bottle.

I saw the venomous way Damien looked at her, so dark that it made me want to pick her up and shield her with my body before he saw me, his expression shifting to bored.

“Whatever. Just as long as it doesn’t touch me, I don’t care. I don’t want to get rabies or something.” He said before he started praising the food on the table.
