“Causing a little chaos, are we? Might have to start calling you Calamity Jane instead.” He said with a wink, and I rolled my eyes at him.

“Hey. I have a bronc ride tomorrow. Come and cheer me on?” He asked and I hesitated, but the puppy dog eyes he gave me left me with no choice.

“Okay. I’m doing for that.” I said before hurrying back to the house. I had no interest in speaking to Beau and I wanted to wash away the last twenty-four hours.

I glanced back at Wyatt who was watching me with a strange look, almost possessive and that scared me even more.

I didn’t want love. I didn’t even want a relationship and that was part of the appeal with Damien. He hadn’t been any of those things for me, regardless of his claim that I was his girlfriend.

I rushed past my Mama who was watching me from the kitchen. I had no interest in having that conversation today either.

I would just wallow in self-pity for a while and lick my wounds before I decided to enter the world again and face the chaos around me.

I was nervously watching as William climbed onto the bronc, the crowds buzzing with excitement as the announcer said his name.

He had a fan base, not that I should have been surprised. It hadn’t escaped my attention that there was a group of women hanging around near the stables, specifically waiting on him.

I held my breath as the gate opened and the horse flew out, bucking wildly trying to remove his passenger.

William held on like he was born riding broncs and I had to admit, watching him in that saddle as he almost seemed at one with the horse was mesmerizing.

Rodeo was never something that appealed to me before. It had been a show sport, one my father never indulged in because it was a waste of time and money in his eyes.

But William suited this world. As the crowd cheered his perfect ride, I watched him saunter towards the gate, his grin making the girls cheer louder.

I hung back from the rider’s area, not wanting to get too close and in everyone’s way, and watched as he was approached by multiple women.

He was polite but kind in his refusal and when a few kids asked for autographs, my ovaries did a little flip. So, sue me, I enjoyed watching a man with kids.

His eyes scanned the crowd until he met mine and that grin turned devilish.

“Hey there, Filly. Did you see my ride?” He asked as he came over, playfully tugging a lock of my hair.

“Oh no. I must have missed it. There were some hot cowboys that distracted me.” I teased and for a second, I swear I saw disappointment in his eyes.

“You saying I’m not a hot cowboy?” He asked and I raised an eyebrow at him as I leaned back against the brick wall of the clubhouse.

“Hmm. I guess you’re alright.” I shrugged and went to walk away but he moved closer, placing both his arms on either side of my head, his body caging me in.

“I may only be alright to look at, but I can promise you that I am amazing everywhere it counts,” he said softly, eyes darting to my lips before they met mine.

“I was only joking, Will. You are a fine specimen, and any woman would be lucky to have you.” I whispered, feeling uncomfortable and tense.

This was too much. William was too close, and he was definitely a man that you fell for, not having casual sex with.

“I don’t want any woman.” He said, moving closer again until his body was pressed against mine.

His fingers brushed my jawline, so delicate it was barely a touch, and sent shivers down my spine.

“I want you.” He whispered as his thumb traced my lower lip.

Then he was gone, stepping back with a boyish grin as if he hadn’t just tempted me.

“Let’s go get some drinks to celebrate my ride.”
