I wiped my brow, the sweat dripping down my face was making it hard to see. I pushed my sheep out as I went over to grab some water.

Wyatt had picked up the shearing relatively quickly and was keeping pace with the rest of us. I needed some fresh air, the stench of the sheep and sweat was getting to me.

As I stood outside and breathed in the fresh air, I noticed dust rising along the driveway, announcing someone heading our way.

“You expecting anyone, Robert?” I called, watching the black van as it approached.

“No, why?” He asked as he came outside. I stared at the van and had an uneasy feeling.

It looked so out of place against the stark contrast of the land.

“I don’t have a good feeling about this,” I muttered as Robert’s sons came out to look.

The van came to a screeching halt outside of the house and time slowed down as I watched three men climb out, guns in hand.

“FUCK!” I shouted as I pushed Robert back inside, the gunfire echoing around us.

I dove to the ground as Wyatt and William stopped what they were doing, panicked expressions.

Robert swore under his breath as he moved towards John, his eldest.

“Only got the one rifle in here.” He said as the guns continued to fire.

“Fucking bastards.” He Robert said as the gunfire stopped.

“Robert Chase! Get out here now.” One of the men called and I looked at him, shaking my head.

“If you don’t come out, we will kill that pretty young thing and her mother over at Hart Ranch. We have men in place already.” The man said and I swore. Robert walked out of the building along with the rest of us.

I didn’t recognize any of the men which meant they were hired guns or new men. Definitely not Russian so they were here from the Fellowship.

“Robert, Robert, Robert.” One of the men crooned as he stepped forward.

“Did you think you could try to underhand us and we wouldn’t find out?” He continued and I looked at Robert.

“What the hell did you do?” I hissed and Robert didn’t look at me.

“Ahh, this idiot thought he could sell the place and disappear without us knowing. He has been quietly organizing things for weeks.” He said and I sighed, glancing at William.

“What gave me away?” Robert asked, not even trying to deny what he did.

“The passports. Do you think we don’t keep tabs on every person who creates fake identities? You might have gotten away with selling the place to someone, but you would never be able to leave the country without us knowing.” He smiled looking at me.

“Don’t think we don’t know about your little problem with pretty Miss Anya. I heard you gave Damien a broken nose. Bad idea, he was your security. Now that you have none, we need to send her a message too.” He said before he raised his gun and shot Robert in the head.

I stared in horror as I watched him fall, his sons crying out behind me before the man pointed at them and shot them both.

“What the fuck!” William shouted as blood splattered over his face.

“Let that be a message to your family. You are all expendable. This ranch now belongs to us, and we will install new people to take care of the money. You better move things along; time is running out.” He said with a grin before he got back into the van and drove away.

“Anya,” I whispered as Wyatt glanced around him at the three bodies before looking at me.

“We can't call this in. They will expect us to clean it up.” He said and I nodded.

“You go. We’ve got this. Here. Take the rifle.” William said as he handed me the gun John had been holding.

I ran to my Ute, praying like hell that they weren’t stupid enough to hurt a woman because if they did, I would hunt them all down myself.
