“They gave me an ultimatum. Well, it wasn’t really an ultimatum. They said I can sell to them and continue to work here, or we get the shipment ready by the end of the week. Enough games, Beau. You need to tell me what is happening here.” She said as she looked at him.

“We move the product. Drugs mostly which the Boones make. The Chase family laundered a lot of the money, not that they will be doing that anymore.” He said and I winced.

“What do you mean?” She asked and he sighed.

“They killed them to send a message. Apparently, Robert was trying to sell and get out of the country. They were found out.” He said and she swallowed some coffee, nodding.

“Okay. So, what does that mean for us?” She glanced at William who got up to make himself some coffee.

“It means we need to find a way to clean the money. But our biggest problem right now is the product. The Boones are behind, and we were already struggling with getting it ready.” He leaned back with a sigh.

“Okay. So, drugs. I am assuming when you load cattle up to transport, you are putting the drugs in the truck too?” She said and I had to give it to her. She was handling this better than I thought.

Her eyes met mine and it was as if she could read my mind.

“My eyes were opened in the two years I was gone. Running drugs is not the worst that can happen.” She said softly and Beau leaned forward.

“That is what we need to discuss. You need to be honest with us, Anya. Why did you leave?” He said and I nodded. That scar on her shoulder was burned into my mind and I gathered Beau had seen it too.

She hesitated and William grabbed her hand.

“Hey. This doesn’t work if we aren’t all open. We are dealing with people who quite literally kill without a second thought. You need to tell us so we can put all the cards on the table.” He said and she licked her lips, closing her eyes.

“I didn’t leave. I was taken.” She whispered and I saw Beau go still.

“I was in town, and someone grabbed me when I went to get into my car. He put a blindfold on and shoved me into the van. I don’t know what they did with my car. When we arrived at some dirty compound on the outskirts of Sinclair Bay, I begged them to let me go or at least tell me why I was there.” She opened her eyes and smiled bitterly.

“I was leverage. They were after Mikhail, and they used me as the bait to bring him in. But the man who took me also had a particular score to settle with me. He was the one responsible for my father’s death.” She paused, taking a deep breath and I had a sinking feeling in my stomach.

“Vlad made a promise to my father years ago that he would take me one day and break me and he was there to deliver on that promise. Vlad was my keeper for the few days I was there. He…did things to me.” She said and I felt sick.

“Sweetheart…” Beau started, and she waved him away, her eyes distant.

“At first, he taunted me with the things he would do, drawing it out. Then he started following through. He wanted me to suffer, to feel humiliated. He kept me chained in a room without a door and a filthy mattress on the floor like I was a dog. He stripped me of my clothes and fucked me in every way he could in front of others. I was his plaything.” She shuddered at the memory and Beau made a sound in his throat that had me flinching.

“When the fucking became something I expected and no longer reacted to, he started using more violence. He wanted to hear me scream, he wanted to see pain and fear in my eyes, and it was the only thing I could deny him. I knew I was going to die there. He had no intention of keeping me alive and he was angry. So angry that I wouldn’t react.” She smiled but it was a broken smile.

“The day he snapped, he was about to cut me up, he had been threatening from the very beginning to fuck me with his knife and then his cock while I bled out over him.” William made a pained sound and she looked at him.

“Did he…” He couldn’t say it and I understood how he felt. My fists clenched, I had to control my breathing to let her finish.

“No. He was about to when someone came to say he had to bring me in. Mikhail had come to get me. He was already fucking me at that time, his filthy dick inside me and he cut my shoulder saying it was his reminder that no matter what, I was his now, and he would come and find me again one day.” She sighed and I reached over to take her hands in mine.

“I’ll find him and kill him,” I vowed and the others agreed. She shook her head.

“You can’t. He is already dead. Shot that same day.” She looked at each of us in turn.

“Now you understand. I am not the sweet girl you used to know. I am broken and tainted. That woman died the day she was taken, and she is never coming back.” She shrugged as if it was nothing, but I was still not understanding.

“Why didn’t you come home?” I asked and she raised her eyebrows at me.

“Why? Because this place was a part of the version of myself that shattered into a thousand pieces I no longer recognized. I couldn’t come back here and face Austin after that or even my mother. I also blamed her for it, for my father. Mikhail tried to get me to stay with him, but I couldn’t do that either. I went to stay with an old friend for a while until I met Damien. He was a good distraction.” She looked at me and my heart broke.

She really did believe she was no good for us.

“Darlin, you are more than worthy of love. You are the strongest person I know and if you let me, I will help hold you together, I will remind you every day why you deserve to be loved.” I whispered as her lips trembled.

“We,” William said and we all looked at him.
