“We just want to walk away quietly. What will it take?” Beau pushed as the other men climbed out of the van. They had guns strapped to their body, but they made their way to the truck, not to Beau.

“We want Anya Hart.” He said and Anya gasped.

“What? Why are you so intent on getting Anya? Beau asked and the smile that spread over his face was pure evil.

“Because she is leverage for far bigger things. If you give her to us, we will let you walk away. Devils Hart Ranch will remain in our custody. We will even let the Boones free too.” The man said and Beau laughed.

“You think I am going to give you the woman I love for freedom? That isn’t freedom at all. It is a life sentence. I’d rather die than give her to you. None of this makes any sense.” Beau continued and I looked at Mikhail, wondering if he knew more but he shook his head slightly.

“Of course not. You are not privy to the workings of the Fellowship. Anya is the granddaughter of a powerful man. The Fellowship has watched her since the day she was born.” He glanced at his watch and then at the men who were loading the van.

“If you won't give her up, then you will all continue to work for us just like this. If you try to send Anya away, we will know. Just like we know that her brother is helping her.” He looked directly at the camera then and his eyes were like a soulless demon.

“Hello, Mikhail. Don’t think we aren’t keeping tabs on you. After your father’s betrayal, we watched his entire family. The crime families of Sinners Bay do not scare us. Stay out of this and we won’t bring down the wrath of the law upon your heads.” He said and turned away.

“Who are you?” Beau said and the man stopped, looked over his shoulder, and smiled.

“I am the Collector.”

“We need to speak to your mother. Do you know who your grandfather is?” I asked and Anya shook her head.

“No. Mama never really mentioned him. I know he left when she was young. Her stepfather was the one who raised her. I don’t have a clue what this even means.” Anya said and Rosslyn took her hand.

“I understand how frustrating this can be. I didn’t have a great family situation as you know. We will figure it out.” She said before Anouska started crying.

“I’ll take her,” Rosslyn said to Gabriel.

“Call your mama in the hospital. I’ll see if I can do some tracing through her birth certificate online.” Mikhail said as Anya took out her phone and dialed the hospital.

“Yes. I would like to speak to Grace Hart, please. It’s her daughter Anya Hart.” She said and waited.

“Hi, Mama. How are you? That’s good. I, ah, have a tough question to ask.” She said then put Grace on loudspeaker.

“What is it?” Grace said and Anya winced.

“Do you know who your biological father is?” Anya said and there was silence on the other line for a long time.

“Why are you asking?” She whispered and Anya sighed.

“It’s important. He has something to do with the reason why we can't get out of this mess with the Fellowship. I need to track him down.” She said and Grace made a pained sound.

“I had hoped we would never have to do this.” She whispered and I wrapped my arms around Anya as she looked up at me with fear in her eyes.

“Who is he, Mama?” Anya said and Grace sighed.

“I only know his name. He reached out when you were born and tried to buy you from me. I told him I never wanted to hear from him again. He asked a few more times after that if I would let him come to visit and Austin stepped in, threatening him.” She said and Anya stiffened.

“What is his name Mama?” Anya said.

“Gideon Montgomery.” She said and I went still. I knew that name. Everyone did in these parts but the Montgomery name was international, Old Money.

Gideon had been the lawyer who got me into the country.

“He was my lawyer,” I said quietly and everyone looked at me.

“So you have his contact details then?” Mikhail asked and I nodded.

“Be careful, Anya. That man can’t be trusted.” Grace said before she said her goodbyes.
