“Good girl,” I whispered as she slowly came back down from her high. I slid my fingers from her, sucking them into my mouth.

When her eyes drooped, I pulled the plug and helped her stand, grabbing one of the bigger towels and wrapping it around her.

I lifted her from the tub and for once, she didn’t protest.

Wyatt appeared in the doorway, his eyes roaming over her in an almost desperate way before he smiled at her.

“I have dinner ready for us. Let’s eat then have an early night.” He said.

“That sounds good.” She said before yawning.

“Come on, Filly. Let’s get you dressed.”

Thirty four

Beau

Myeyesthreatenedtoclose again, and I swore softly. I had to get home. I didn’t want to stay somewhere overnight, but I had been awake for nearly twenty-four hours now.

I knew there was a truck stop not far from here and from there it was only another two hours to get to the ranch.

I could try to push on, but I needed something to keep me awake. Coffee was going to have to get me through.

I was desperate to get back to Anya, after our conversation about her mysterious grandfather, I was even more wary of things to come.

This all felt too easy, too calm and my gut told me something was coming. Something was about to happen.

I glanced at the time, seeing it was four am. They would be asleep now. Anya mentioned her brother had to leave with Rosslyn and that they all planned on moving the cattle today so they would need all the sleep they could get with just the three of them to move them now.

I pulled into the truck stop and went to get my coffee, searching for Mikhail's number. My bet was he was still up, and I wanted to have some news for Anya when I returned.

“Beau. Is everything alright?” Mikhail said as he picked up on the second ring. He sounded exhausted, his voice rough and slow.

“I’m fine. I spoke to Anya earlier. How are you? How is Rosslyn?” I asked and he sighed.

“She is doing okay. They had to take her in for an emergency C-section, she is resting right now. She had placental abruption.” He said and I heard the fear in those words.

“The baby?” I asked, holding my breath as I waited.

“Alive and well. He has been in NICU for observation since he was only thirty-five weeks along. But So far they are saying he is strong and healthy.” Mikhail said and I heard the sound of hospital monitors beeping in the background.

“Fuck. I’m so glad everything is okay, Mik. Congratulations on your little boy.” I added and he huffed a laugh.

“Thank you. I am firmly of the belief that he is Gabe’s son because only Gabe’s genetics could cause so much stress and anxiety already.” He said and I laughed.

“Having met the man, I can agree with you. I’m glad everyone is okay.” I added and he sighed.

“Thanks Beau. I can head back down…” I cut him off with a snarl.

“Absolutely not. You stay there with your family. We have this covered. You have done enough.” I said when he tried to protest.

“I am sure this whole Gideon thing will be the answer. There is nothing more you can do right now except wait for the tracking devices to show us where the product goes and you don’t need to be here for that, in fact, you should send us the details to access it so we can do it and you don’t have to worry. If we need you, we will call.” I said.

“Good. You let me know what is happening and I will send the information to you. I will get Kenji; someone I trust, to monitor it, so you will hear from him. I’ll send Anya some photos of her nephew tomorrow once we all agree on his name.” He said with amusement before I heard Gabriel in the background.

“I have to go. Anya woke up and Gabriel was trying to fluff her pillow for the tenth time, and she is about to rip his arms off.” He said and I laughed, saying my goodbye.

I was glad that they were okay. When Anya told me what happened, I couldn’t imagine what they were going through. If it had been Anya in that situation…
