I didn’t want to think about it. But they were lucky Gideon was there. I wanted to understand this man, I didn’t trust him entirely.

But I also didn’t think he had nefarious intentions with Anya either. He just had secrets and secrets could get people killed in our world.

I walked back to my truck, coffee in hand, and considered our next move. The key was getting the Collector. I hoped the tracking devices that Mikhail put in place would lead us somewhere.

“Excuse me mate. Would you mind giving me a hand? I am trying to change a tire.” A man said as I started to climb into my truck.

I looked him over, hesitant. He was a middle-aged man on the larger side weight-wise with a scraggly beard and a kind smile. He looked harmless so I shrugged. An extra few minutes wouldn’t matter and it would probably wake me up.

“Sure. I’ll be right over.” I said, climbing back down from the truck with my coffee in hand. As I closed the door, I spun around to face him and paused when I saw the sly smile.

“Thanks, Beau Daley. You have been a real help.” He said before I felt something hit the back of my head.

I went down hard, my lack of sleep making me weaker than I would usually be. I felt the warm liquid from my coffee soak into my shirt as I rolled over, groaning with the effort.

My vision was blurry as I blinked in the grey morning light. When I recognized the smiling face of the man above me, anger gave me a rush of adrenaline.

Damien.

“You. What the fuck are you doing here?” I spat, trying to get up.

“Following orders. Plus, I have a personal gift for you. You thought you could embarrass me and take away my woman? I’ll show you what the Fellowship does to assholes like you.” He said with a smile, and I tried to get to my feet before another blow knocked me down.

My cheek hit the concrete and I felt my teeth sink into my lip, tasting blood.

“I’ll break you, Beau. And I will enjoy doing it too. Then I will send pieces of you to pretty little Anya.” He crooned and I rolled over in time to see Damien’s boot heading straight for my face before my world went black.

“Areyouready?”Ishouted to Wyatt over the sound of the howling wind. I sat on Callie who was shifting from foot to foot restlessly.

The storm was rolling in faster than we expected. We had left this too late. We were going to be moving cattle in the rain and most likely thunder and lightning, making this as unsafe as it could possibly get.

“Are you sure you don’t want us to use the helicopter?” Gideon asked and William shook his head.

The cattle aren’t used to them and in this weather, they will likely scatter more. We only need to move them over by one paddock. The sheep are in a paddock not far from there either. With the dogs, we should get it done quickly.” He replied as he mounted his horse.

“Let’s go,” Wyatt said and the dogs took off ahead of us, Wyatt leading the way.

I glanced at the sky in the distance, seeing the flash of lightning over the ridge and sighed.

We should have been out here days ago but with everything happening and the staff quitting, it had been neglected.

If we lost livestock to this storm, I was going to personally bill the Fellowship. They wanted us to do business, they had to keep us in business.

As we made our way through the paddock, you could feel the electricity in the air, the wind was blowing so hard that I had to lean into it to stop myself from being pushed back on the horse.

I was still rusty with my skills, so I headed to the rear of the herd as we approached, and William and Wyatt directed the dogs.

The cattle moved quickly, almost as if they knew we were helping them. A few stragglers tried to cut from the main herd but the dogs got them in quickly and we moved them to the higher paddock with no issues.

The rain was starting to fall in big, fat drops every so often, the scent of earth in the air was intoxicating. It had always been one of my favorite scents.

“Well, that went easier than I expected,” I said to Wyatt as William closed the gate.

“Don’t jinx us yet. The sheep are always harder to deal with.” He said with a wary smile.
