“You don’t say.”

“Oh, I don’t know, I kind of like it.” Abi offers me a sympathetic smile. “Is that why you call her sunshine?” She turns her attention to Theo.

“I…” He gulps, running a hand over his head and down the back of his neck.

“Awkward.” Oakley whistles, loving every second of the ripple of tension that goes through the room.

It’s Tally who finally comes to our rescue. “Oakley tells me you have a big birthday on the horizon Theo.”

“Beckworth needs to learn to keep his mouth shut.”

“Just because you’re the baby Heir.” He grins, and Theo flips him off. “We need to start planning something epic.”

“Is anything really ever epic now the two of you are wifed up?” Elliot asks, and it isn’t lost on me how he leaves me and Theo out of the equation.

It shouldn’t sting so much as it does, but I can’t say I’m surprised.

I’m not one of them.

He knows that as well as I do.

“You sound a little jealous there, Eaton,” Reese taunts. “You know I’m sure you could easily rectify—”

“Reese,” Liv hisses, clapping her hand over his mouth. Elliot’s expression darkens as he shoves out the chair and stalks out of the room.

Abi lets out a heavy sigh. “Do you have to keep goading him like that?”

“What, Red? It’s funny.”

“We all know he’s—”

“I need to go.” Abi shoots up too, grabbing her bag and fidgeting with her hands. “I’ll see you all tomorrow.”

“Abs, wait. Fuck, I didn’t mean…” But she’s already gone, hurrying out of the Chapel like there’s a monster on her tail.

“Well done, dickhead.” Liv swats Reese’s chest. “I thought we agreed no more poking the bear.”

“Fuck that. The sooner he gets out of his head, the better. We can all see he wants her.”

“Have you considered that maybe he’s staying away because he cares?”

“Nah, he’s a coward. If you want something, you should go after it.” Oakley puffs out his chest, grinning at his sister. “Worked for you and Reese, and me and Prim.”

“Because we can deal with your macho bullshit. Abi is different.”

“You know, she’s probably a lot stronger than you all give her credit for,” I say.

Theo gets up and comes over, dropping down beside me. “Raine’s got a point. Abi can handle her own. She’s proved that more than once.”

“Yeah, but can she handle Elliot?” Reese asks, and the mood turns sombre.

Theo moves closer, lifting his arm toward me but I stand. “I should probably go.”

“Go?” he echoes.

“Yeah. I have some homework and stuff to do.”

“Stuff…” He arches his brow. “Fine. I’ll walk you out.”
