This boy—this broken boy—has completely shattered my defences and got me wanting things I can never have.

“Morning, sunshine.” He brushes his mouth over the curve of my shoulder, dragging me closer to his body. “Fucking love waking up—”

A throat clearing startles us both, and Theo shrieks, “Millie, what the fuck?”

“In case you’ve forgotten, big brother, this ismyroom.”

Shit.

I peek out from behind him and give Millie a guilty smile. “Hi, Mills.”

“Hi, Raine.”

“It’s not what you think,” I start, but the low growl coming from Theo stops me in my tracks.

“You are so predictable, Theodore.” Millie cuts him with a withering look, but I hear the amusement in her voice. “I wondered when I’d finally catch you two sneaking around. Would have preferred not to find you in my bed. You owe me clean sheets, by the way.”

“Mills,” Theo grumbles, flipping back against her pillows and pulling me with him.

“Theo.” I smack his stomach. “We need to get up.”

“Why? She’s seen us now. We can all hang and—”

“I’ll be in the kitchen. Finding something to eat that won’t make a reappearance every time I think of my brother sexing up his girlfriend… In. My. Bed.”

“Number one. Raine’s not my girlfriend”—Theo finally extracts himself from the bed—“and two, I wasn’t sexing her up. What the hell do you know about sex anyway?”

“I know that you’re a terrible liar.”

“I think I should go,” I say, slipping out of the bed and pulling on my pyjamas.

“I’ll be up in a minute,” Theo says.

“Sorry, Millie. We didn’t plan—”

“Sorry?” She smiles. “You don’t need to be sorry. I knew there was something going on… and don’t listen to my brother. He’s never, ever brought a girl around me before. So the fact I caught him down here with you… it means something.”

“Millie,” he groans again, and I don’t dare look at him. I don’t want to see whatever’s in his eyes.

He made it pretty clear just now that this doesn’t mean anything.

“I’ll see you soon, okay,” I say, all but fleeing from her room.

Theo calls after me but I don’t stop until I’m safely in my room, with the door closed behind me.

Last night was a mistake.

I shouldn’t have let him apologise. Let him touch me.

It would have been easier that way.

A clean break.

I need to get ready for class but I’m not sure I have the energy, so instead, I go into the bathroom and strip off.

A hot shower will help.

And if it doesn’t, at least I won’t be wrapped in Theo’s scent.
