It’s not fair to accuse them of that. I’m more than aware. They care more than anyone. They’re the family that Millie and I have needed over the years, not that she knows.

They’ve got her back just as much as they have mine, and the four of us are the sole reason her life here is as smooth as it is.

Everyone is too scared to go up against us. And in turn, that means anyone with even half a fucking brain cell won’t go anywhere near my little sister.

Overbearing? Sure. But she fucking deserves to be treated like a queen. I refuse to allow people to use her to get to me, or any of us. She’s too good for that shit.

No sooner has the door slammed back against the wall do I have my locker open and I’m pulling my shit out.

“The showers are that way,” Elliot deadpans, a smug as fuck grin on his pretty boy face.

Flipping them all off, I march back out still covered in sweat and mud.By the time I get to the girls’ dorms, the rain has started, and I’m also soaked through and dripping all over the place. Something that will make Mrs. Danvers have a fucking cow. But what the fuck ever. My sister is more important than her expensive parquet flooring.

Taking the stairs two at a time, my muscles burn like fuck, reminding me of just how hard Coach pushed us this afternoon.

The second I pull the door open to the corridor that will lead me to Millie’s room, I stumble across a group of girls. They stare at me in horror. But the second they see through the mud and dirt, their demeanours completely change.

“Hey, Theo,” Lauren purrs, looking me up and down like she’s considering jumping me like this.

“You look like you’ve put in a good workout this afternoon,” Sophie adds, stepping up to her friend. “I bet you could use a massage. Lauren and I can work magic with our fingers,” she confesses, running said fingers over the low neckline of her tank, showing off even more cleavage than she is already.

“Maybe another day, yeah? I’ve got plans.”

“Oh, Theo. Come on. We’d have so much fun.”

“I’m sure.”

Turning my back on them, I take off, my ears bleeding as they continue to whine like dying cats about the lack of attention I’m giving them.

My heart jumps up into my throat the second I turn the corner and find Millie’s door slightly ajar. She should know better than to leave herself exposed, even in a building that should only inhabit female students and a couple of well-trusted teachers. But there are way too many rule-breaking cunts like me and my boys who have been known to sneak into more than a few dorm rooms here over the years for a whole host of things. Most of which end in some kind of high.

My teeth grind as I lift my hand, ready to slam my palm down on the door and scare the living shit out of Millie just to prove a point.

I pause, forcing myself to breathe, to calm the fuck down. I might want to teach her a lesson, but I don’t need her to see me losing control. If she lives her entire life believing that I can keep a lid on my anger, my darkness, that won’t be a bad thing.

Once I’ve got the untamed beast that lives inside me reined in, I finally push the door open, letting it slam back against the wall to reveal what’s happening inside.

I swear to fuck, despite everything I just told myself, if she’s in here with a boy, any fucking boy, I will end him with my bare hands.

Millie shrieks in shock as I storm into the room, ready to strangle the fuck out of some little tosser who’s trying his luck. But when my vision clears, I don’t find a boy standing in front of her, protecting her.

Oh no.

Instead, I findher.

In my little sister’s fucking dorm room.

New Girl stands in front of Millie as if she needs to hide my own sister from me.

“What the fuck are you doing in here?” I seethe, my voice low and deadly.

“Theo, leave it,” Millie says, jumping out from behind New Girl.

Despite her telling me not to forget her name after she told it to me in the kitchen the other night, it had left my head long before I walked away from her irritating brand of sass and arrogance.

“What have I told you, Millie? Only your friends should be in your room.”

Millie doesn’t get a chance to say anything because she’s cut off by New Girl as she throws her head back and laughs like I just told the world’s funniest joke.
