“You need to stay away from Millie.”

I yank my door open, a smile curling at my lips as he stumbles forward a little. But Theo is quick to right himself, his eyes simmering with unrestrained anger. “I don’t want her anywhere near the likes of you.”

Everything inside me goes still.

“What do you mean, ‘the likes of me’?”

I know exactly what he means but I want to hear him say it.

“Come on, Raine,” he drawls my name, smirking. “We both know you don’t belong here. That someone on the admissions board took pity on you and probably—”

“You don’t know the first thing about me.” Despite the venom in my voice, my body trembles. “And I don’t appreciate the threat.”

“Stay away from Millie and we won’t have a problem.”

“That’s going to be a bit difficult when we have therapy together.”

Something flashes in his eyes, but it’s gone as quickly as I saw it.

“You really don’t want to play games with me,” he warns.

“Why? Because you’re big bad Theo Ashworth? Because you’re a Saint? An Heir?” I snort, hardly able to tamp down my amusement.

Theo takes a step forward, forcing me to back up. And another, until he’s in my room. My space.

The air thins between us. Stretching taut like a bowstring.

He takes a lazy perusal of the room, pure arrogance radiating from him.

“You need to leave,” I snap.

“Scared, New Girl?” He pins me with a dark look. “Because you should be.”

I glare at him… and then explode with laughter, making his expression turn murderous.

“You think this is funny?”

“You do realise how ridiculous you look, standing here caked in mud, threatening me?”

“But—”

“But nothing.” I get in his face close enough that I can smell the earth and dirt, jabbing my finger toward his chest. “I’m not scared of you, Theo. I’m not—”

His fingers close around mine, holding me there as electricity crackles between us. “You should be.”

More laughter bubbles in my chest and his brows pinch with irritation. “You can leave now,” I sass. “Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.”

“Stay away from Millie. I mean it.”

“Yeah, yeah.” I give him a little shove toward the door.

He glares at me, and I brace myself for his snappy comeback. But instead, he turns and yanks the door open, murmuring something to himself about the ‘crazy new girl.’

I can live with that.

If it means he stays out of my way and stops his weird little obsession he has with me.

The door slams behind him and I flinch. Remembering how my stomach had dipped at his proximity. The fact his gaze had dropped to my mouth more than once.
