I jog down the stairs to the ground floor, and march back toward the kitchen where I found the girl with the dark hair and mesmerising violet eyes.

It wasn’t just the fact she was standing there that startled me, it was that she was so fucking beautiful but not in the classic All Hallows’ way. She was different. Darker, more mysterious. More… enthralling.

It’s just a shame she was in the fucking way and gave me nothing but lip and attitude. If the situation were different, I could have made better use of that smart mouth. But not while Millie was waiting for me. Despite my reputation, I do have some fucking morals.

Besides, she seems like a girl who will take a little more convincing than the Heir chasers I’m used to.

Bring it fucking on, I’m all about the challenge. It makes the inevitable win so much fucking sweeter.

My skin prickles as I turn toward the exit. Looking over my shoulder, I search the hallway for a set of eyes—violet eyes—but I don’t find anyone. Not that that means she isn’t there. This old building has plenty of hiding places.

If I were feeling a little more patient, I might play her game. But tonight is not the night.

So without looking for her again, I focus on the doors and make my way home.

My real home.

“Ididn’t think you were coming back until tomorrow,” Elliot says the second I crash into the Chapel like a raging bull.

The short walk from the girls’ dorm was just long enough to replay the day and it made my anger surge to the surface once again.

“Change of plans,” I bark, making a beeline for the good shit.

“Hey,” Elliot complains when I steal one of his expensive as shit bottles of vodka. Pretentious fuck.

“Eat shit,” I grunt, twisting the top and taking my first shot of the liquid that promises some reprieve from the last few days.

“What happened?” he asks, jumping up on the counter and watching as I pace back and forth.

“Normal shit. It has been brewing all week, but the pin was finally pulled. I brought Millie back, got her settled in her room.”

“Does she need anything?” he asks without missing a beat.

“Nah, I stole what I could from the kitchen. I’ll go get her everything else tomorrow.”

“You could have brought her back here for the night, you know.”

I glare at him. It’s not the first time he’s suggested it but just like every single time he has, I shoot it down.

“Not happening.”

“Mate, we’re just hanging out. It’s not like—”

“I said no. She’s not coming here. The less she gets involved in this life the better.”

“You can’t smother her in bubble wrap forever. She’s twelve. She’s going to be partying and meeting boys. You can’t stop that. It’s part of teenage life.”

“Watch me,” I snap. “She’s getting out of this place at the first possible opportunity. And she certainly isn’t ending up with some All Hallows’ prick.”

He shakes his head. “We’re not all that bad,” he mutters.

“Aren’t we? I saw photos from the basement the other night,” I tease.

I swear, his face turns fucking purple.

“You what? Who fuck would be stupid enough to take—” Apparently able to read something on my face, his words abruptly cut off. “Fucking prick.”
