But as I lie there with his fingerprints on my hips and his bite marks on my neck, I’m not sure it was enough.

By Tuesday morning, the post-sex glow I felt when Theo collapsed on top of me is well and truly gone.

Instead, anger swirls in its place.

I’m angry at him. Furious that he let himself into my room and baited me into another fight. But most of all, I’m just angry with myself.

Theo Ashworth gets under my skin like no other. And part of me enjoys it, I can’t deny that. But I can’t afford to give any more pieces of myself to boys who will only squander them, and I felt it last night.

A split second where we didn’t hate each other. A brief moment where we understood each other.

That shit is dangerous, and it isn’t real. Because boys like Theo don’t care.

They can’t.

And even if he did… it doesn’t matter.

All Hallows’ isn’t my home, it will never be my home. It’s just another place I’m passing through.

A knock at the door startles me. I assume it’s Millie because she’s become quite my little shadow these last few days.

But it isn’t Millie at all.

“You,” I frown at Tally.

“I figured we should try again.”

“Try what exactly?”

“Come on, we both know you’re not that stupid. We should go if we want to make it back in time.”

“Sorry, am I supposed to know what you’re talking about?”

“Breakfast with me and the girls.”

What the hell?

My face must say it all because she lets out a soft laugh. “Don’t look so worried. Abi is coming.”

“Abi… right.”

“Let’s go.” She pushes the door wider and flicks her gaze to the hall.

“I’m not going with you.” I fold my arms over my chest. “You can’t—”

“Look, we got off on the wrong foot before. And Abi vouched for you. So come to breakfast. We’re going to Dessert Island.”

“I—”

“Please?”

“Why?” I spit.

“Because something tells me you need a friend, or three.”

“Did Theo put you up to this?”
