Page 74 of Brutal Callous Heir

I sense Abi watching me and slide my eyes to hers in question. “Shouldn’t you be watching the road?” My brow arches.

“I’m glad you came,” she says, giving the road her full attention.

But I don’t miss the spark of humour in her eyes. Mischief even. So at odds with her quiet, meek persona.

Like Millie, there’s something about Abi that resonates with me.

As we drive the rest of the way in thick silence, I realise she’s probably a little broken.

Just like me.

“God, this is good,” Tally groans a little too loudly as she licks the cream frosting off her muffin.

“Okay, Tally. We don’t need to hear your sex noises before nine,” Liv teases.

“Like I haven’t heard yours plenty.” Tally flashes her a smug grin.

“Bitch.”

“Whore.”

“Are they always like this?” I ask Abi who smiles around her caramel latte.

“It’s been worse since Tally and Oak became official. They’re in some kind of contest—”

“Sex contest?” I ask with a frown.

“No,” they both answer as Abi squeaks. “Yes, something like that.”

The blush she wears is adorable, and I hate to admit it, but I like Abigail Bancroft. I like her a lot.

“We are not in a sex contest. But when your twin is with one of your best friends, things can get… a little weird, I guess.”

“That’s because they’re all sex-obsessed,” Abi adds.

Damn.

This is harder than I thought it would be. Sitting here, pretending that Theo wasn’t in my room last night, fucking me so hard I saw stars.

“Raine?” Abi’s voice startles me.

“Y-yeah?” I croak.

“Where’d you go just now?”

“Uh, nowhere.” I smile. Fake. Forced. But enough of a distraction that she doesn’t push it.

“So back to Theo…” Olivia says. “What’s going on with you two?”

“Like I said before, nothing.”

“Nice try, but I don’t buy it. He’s out for blood. Your blood.” She pins me with a knowing look.

“How do you know… Reese.” I deduce.

I guess the Heir bro code doesn’t apply to girlfriends.
