If anyone is going to break her down and get the truth, then it’s going to be me.

“Stay the fuck away from her.”

“Oldest trick in the book, man,” Reese teases.

“What?” Spinning around, I hold his eyes, desperately trying to ignore the smirk playing on his lips. It makes me want to punch the fuck out of him.

“Using her pussy to make you think what she wants you to think.”

“If we find out it was her—” Elliot starts, but I quickly cut him off.

“You’ll stay the fuck away from her,” I repeat.

“Or what?” he asks, taking a warning step toward me.

My teeth grind, my fists curling up.

“She’s playing you, Theo,” he warns, hitting me where he knows it’ll hurt. “Playing you, just likehim. Befriending Millie, reeling you in.” He shakes his head. “If she is the one doing this, I’ll fucking end her.”

“She’s not,” I state, sounding way more confident than I feel.

But what if she is?

Refusing to hear any more of what he’s got to say, I spin on my heels and storm out of the house.

My first instinct is to run. To run as far and as fast as I can away from here. Away from her and away fromhim. But I can’t. I made myself two promises. A promise to look after my sister no matter fucking what. And a promise to ruin the life of the man who fucked ours up. And in order to do that, I need to wait just a few more weeks.

The walk to the Orwell Building is short and the second I get there, I discover students everywhere.Lifting my arm, I look at the time.

With a sigh, I turn toward our tutor room ready to get the day started. But I only make it a couple of steps before four girls at the other end of the hallway make my steps falter.

“No,” I breathe, unable to keep my reaction to seeing her with them inside.

I run my eyes over each of them.

Liv, Tally, and Abi look exactly as they always do. Happy, in control—okay, maybe not Abi so much—but they’re settled, they know they belong here.

And then I find Raine. The fourth member to their new little quartet.

My heart pounds as confusion wars.

She isn’t friends with them.

She doesn’t like them.

I’ve heard the girls moaning about her attitude and refusal to accept their friendship more than once.

What the fuck are they doing?

“Good morning, Theo,” Tally sings when I get close enough to them.

“Did you have a good night?” Liv asks, but I ignore the not-so-subtle undertone of her question as I step up in front of Raine. Toe-to-fucking-toe.

I realise my mistake instantly. Her scent fills my nose, and the warmth of her tempting body burns into mine.

I want to say that she’s as affected by my presence as I am hers. But there isn’t so much as a flicker of recognition in her eyes.

“What the fuck are you doing?” I seethe.
