Millie’s high-pitched shriek dies out as I reach the centre, and I glance back to find her all up in her brother’s face.
My mouth twitches. She’s a force to be reckoned with, and I can’t help but think she reminds me of someone I know.
Except, we’re not the same, not really.
Millie has people looking out for her. She has Theo. He might be an entitled, pretentious arsehole but he cares about her.
It’s a damn sight more than I’ve ever had.
With that depressing thought, I leave them to their sibling squabble and slip inside the centre.
Telling myself that I don’t need anyone anyway.

Theo is relentless.
The next day, he marks my presence, tracking me all over campus.
It’s borderline creepy.
Except every time I feel his gaze, it’s accompanied by a rather annoying swarm of butterflies.
Theo infuriates me as much as he excites me.
And that is a problem.
But I’m determined to stay strong and give him the cold shoulder.
So we had sex?
It was a mistake. A one-time thing to exorcise the strange chemistry between us. I’m not looking for a repeat.
Even if the boy has all the right moves.
Damn him.
He couldn’t be a two-pump chump, could he?
Shaking the thoughts out of my head, I enter the cafeteria surprised when Tally waves at me.
‘Join us,’ she mouths.
I hesitate because Oakley and Reese are with them which means Elliot and Theo won’t be far behind. It will only throw fuel on the fire if I join them unless…
With a forced smile, I cut across the room to their table. “Hi.”
“Hey. Come, sit.”
“Uh, Prim”—Oakley frowns—“what are you doing?”
“Inviting Raine to sit with us.”
“Yes, I can see that.” The muscle in his jaw tics. “But why?”
“Because… she’s my friend.”
Reese smothers a laugh and I narrow my eyes at him. “Problem?” I ask, smoothly.
