“Nope.” He holds up his hands. “Not at all.”

“Ignore the boys,” Liv says. “They’re just upset we prefer eating in here to their private dining room.”

“You have a pri— of course you do.” My eyes roll so hard it hurts.

I squeeze in next to Tally and Oakley glowers at me. “You shouldn’t be here.”

“Oakley Beckworth!”

“Babe, she’s—”

“It’s fine,” Elliot appears. “Let her stay.” He gives me a hard once over and then sits down at the other end of the table.

“Well, isn’t this cosy?”

“Where’s Abs?” Tally asks him.

“How the fuck should I know?” He hasn’t taken his eyes off me yet, and I can see why he’s the leader of their little Heir club. He’s an impenetrable fortress and for the first time since tagging their cars, a little pang of fear goes through me.

But I lock it down tight. So what if I messed up his beloved car, it isn’t like he doesn’t have the means to get it fixed. Mummy and Daddy will probably foot the bill.

“Funny story, our boy Theo thinks you’re to blame for the other night.”

“Other night?” I play dumb. But I notice how still the girls go.

Shit.

“Brave. Or really fucking stupid,” he mutters.

“Relax, Elliot,” Liv says, jumping to my defence. “She didn’t do it. You know that.”

He doesn’t get a chance to answer because Theo arrives and… He. Is. Furious.

“What the fuck is she doing here?”

“Nice to see you too, friend.” I flash him a feral grin.

There’s just something about pushing his buttons.

“Leave.”

“Theo, don’t be so rude,” Tally cries.

“She doesn’t belong here.”

“It’s the cafeteria. It literally belongs to all students.”

“Not this table. This table is ours.”

“Did you really just say that?”

Reese and Oakley struggle to hide their amusement, watching the two of us sling insults.

“Just sit down and eat,” Elliot demands. “At least here, we can keep an eye on her.”

The urge to flip him off burns through me but I tamp it down. Something tells me Elliot isn’t the kind of boy you mess with. And I’ve already done enough of that.

Theo keeps one eye on me while they talk about the latest rugby scores.
