“There isn’t. It’s point—”

Oak’s ringing phone cuts off my whining and I immediately sit up, my feet firmly on the floor and ready to run.

“It’s Dad,” he confirms, swiping the screen and putting it on speaker.

“We’ve got him,” Christian confirms.

“Where?” I bark, already halfway to the door.

“Sending you the link now.”

My phone buzzes in my pocket right on cue.

“But we don’t know if she’s with him,” someone says.

“It’s a start,” I call over my shoulder as I begin running down the hall, the location of Vaughn’s phone loading before my eyes.

Eventually, it settles on a position.

“Got you, motherfucker,” I grunt as footsteps pound behind me. “They’re in Oxford.”

“I’ll drive,” Elliot confirms. “Direct me.”

“What about us?” Abi calls.

“Look after Millie. We’ve got this.”

“This is bullshit,” my sister spits, making my teeth grind. “I want to come get her. If it weren’t for me then—”

Spinning around, I grab my sister by the upper arms and stare into her watery eyes.“She’s going to need you, Mills. When we bring her back, she’s going to need you. Let us do this, then you can take care of her.”

I’m pretty sure I’m lying. Something tells me that the second she’s back in my arms, I’m not letting her go for anything. Not even my little sister.

“We can tidy her room up,” she suggests, nodding.

“She’s not going back to her room,” I state. “She’s coming home with me.”

“Bro,” Elliot starts.

“Don’t,” I spit, holding my hand up. “Just don’t. If you want to make anything nice for her then do it to my room. Cover it in flowers and fucking glitter if you think it’ll make her happy, I don’t care.”

“Not sure that’s—”

“We gotta go,” I say, my heart sinking when I realise the dot on my screen is moving.

Of fucking course, he’s not going to make this easy for us.

“Let’s go. This motherfucker is moving.”

“You got it,” Reese agrees as the four of us run toward the exit and then make a beeline for Elliot’s car.

“We’re on our way now,” Oak says, still on the phone to Christian, although I notice he’s taken it off speaker. “No, it’s fine. We’ll just—”

“What’s going on?” I ask, twisting around in my seat as Elliot takes the road out of Saints Cross at double the speed limit.

“We’re not going to need—” Oak lets out a heavy sigh. “Fine. Fine, okay. Yes. Okay, bye.”

“What’s going on?” I repeat.
