Almost a little too well.
Theo laughs, his gaze finding mine. He crooks a smile at me, and I smile back, trying to ignore the flutter in my chest.
Vaughn has been quiet since last night. But I know he’ll pop up when I least expect it now that he’s revealed his target to me.
I wish I could tell Theo. Take my chances and come clean. But I could never do that to him and Millie. I don’t want Vaughn Ronson anywhere near them.
I’ll do this one last job for him and then disappear.
For good.
“Oh, and Mills?”
“Yeah?”
“I talked to the boys, and we all agreed you can come to the party for the first hour. But you stay with Raine or one of the girls the whole time. And no make-up.”
“Seriously? I can come.”
“Yeah. You’re my sister. You should be there for a little bit.”
“Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.” She beams.
He gives her a little nod before disappearing into the bathroom.
“Oh my God,” she shrieks. “I can’t believe he agreed.”
“Okay there, party girl. Calm down.”
“Crap, sorry. It’s just he’s never treated me like this before. I’ve always been his annoying little sister.”
“Theo loves you very much Millie. He just wants you to be safe and happy.”
“I know. But it’s an Heir party.” Her eyes dance with wonder.
“I thought you didn’t buy into the whole Heir tradition?”
“Oh, I don’t. But still, I’m intrigued.”
“Of course you are.” I roll my eyes. “Just make sure you don’t do anything stupid. You wouldn’t want Theo losing his shit.”
“He could try.” She sits a little straighter, grinning.
“Seriously, Millie. You have to behave.”
“I will.”
Something tells me Theo is going to have his hands full with his sister.
And it guts me that I won’t be around long enough to watch him try and manage being her guardian.

“Ithought I said no make-up,” I bark when I walk into my bedroom to find it’s been invaded by girls and more make-up and hair products than I think I’ve ever seen in my life.
“Relax, Teddy,” Raine says with a smirk. “We’re not going crazy. Just accentuating what she’s already got.”
