“Theo, we can’t…” My hands go to his chest, pushing slightly.

“Can’t?” He lifts his head, his hooded eyes meeting mine. “Of course we fucking can. I need you, sunshine. I always fucking need you.”

The air crackles and shifts, a heavy weight crushing my chest. He isn’t going to make this easy. But then, nothing with Theo has been easy.

No, that isn’t true.

In some ways, things with Theo have been too easy.

“I’m sorry,” I whisper.

“Sorry? What the fuck are you— No.” He staggers back like I’ve physically hurt him. “Keeley. She said she saw you…”

“What?”

“You were with someone at the party?”

“No, Theo, that’s not—”

“Fuck.Fuck.” He grabs the ends of his hair, tugging. “She told me you’d do this. She told me—”

Panic rises inside me like a tidal wave. I need to end it, I need to let him go. But not like this.

I didn’t want it to be like this.

“Who was it?” He turns on me, pure anger burning in his eyes. “Who the fuck was it? I’ll kill him. I’ll fucking kill him for—”

“It doesn’t matter.” I manage to find my voice, locking away every ounce of hesitation I feel. Ignoring the pit in my stomach screaming at me that this is wrong.

“No.” He stares at me—through me. “You wouldn’t… It’s me and you, sunshine. You promised. You fucking promised.”

The devastation in his eyes guts me but I shove it down.

“I’m leaving, Theo. You knew that. You knew this was only temporary.”

“You’re…” He takes a hand down his face, letting out a heavy sigh. When he looks at me again, what I see there makes me shudder.

This isn’t my Theo.

It’s the boy I met all those weeks ago.

Bitter laughter spills out of him. “Yeah, whatever,” he says, moving to the door as if I didn’t just break his heart.

“Theo, wait,” I cry, wanting to take it back.

Wanting nothing more than for him to look at me like he used to.

“Nah, sunshine,” he spits the word, something severing between us. “I should have listened to her.”

“To… her?”

“Yeah, Keeley. You’re not one of us, you’ll never be one of us. And I was a fucking idiot for ever dipping my dick in your charity case pussy.”

Pain explodes in my chest as I fight back the tears burning the backs of my eyes.

But Theo isn’t done.

Of course he isn’t.
