I laughed. “He’s not so good at keeping his hands off me, so I think you’re right.”

She held out her fingers for me to clasp, grinning. “Come on. Let’s go ruin his life.”

We linked hands and took the short walk to the elevator, taking it down to the first floor and into the lobby, where the party was already happening.

Macon had debated on whether to have the event in one of the ballrooms or the lobby and opted for the latter, wanting his guests to experience the heart of the hotel.

I was so glad he’d gone this route.

After touring the entire property, which was undoubtedly the prettiest hotel I’d ever seen, there was something so warm and extravagant about this room. Something that, the first time I’d stepped inside it, had taken my breath away.

As I looked at the faces of his guests, their expressions and reactions, I could tell they were all feeling the same way.

“I’m sure Macon is slammed with schmoozing,” Jo said as she led me toward the center of the space, “so I’m going to introduce you to some of his friends and, of course, my soon-to-be hubby. Unless you’ve already met the crew?”

“Just Cooper—that’s it.”

“Well then, it’s time to meet the Daltons.”

We approached a group of men, wearing suits in navy and black and dark gray. Their hair was gelled, their facial hair on point, their presence even louder than their voices as they spoke to one another. And even while I wore four-inch heels, they towered over me, just like Macon, their stature as built and intimidating as his.

Jo moved in between two of them, making sure there was space for the both of us before she said, “Gentlemen, I’d like to introduce you to Brooklyn.”

The first thing I noticed was that, aside from my name, she didn’t inform them of who I was. That meant everyone in this circle already knew. Either Macon had told them or someone else had, but they didn’t seem to question who I was or need any further explanation.

Jo put her arm around me and laughed. “You’re never going to remember all of these names, but don’t worry, we won’t quiz you later. We’re definitely not that mean.”

“She isn’t, but I am,” one of the guys said.

“We’ll get to that smart-ass in a second,” Jo said, “but we’re going to start right here.” She placed her hand on the chest of the guy next to her. “Arguably the most important man here because I’m about to marry his sexy ass. This is Jenner.”

“Great to meet you,” I said to Jenner as we shook hands.

Jenner nodded. “I’ve heard a lot about you, Brooklyn.”

“That’s because my brother can’t stop talking about her,” the same smart-ass said, who happened to be standing on the other side of Jenner.

Jo pointed at him and said, “That’s Brady, Macon’s oldest brother.”

“It’s a pleasure, Brooklyn.” Brady clasped his fingers around mine. “At this point, I feel like I already know you, which gives me automatic permission to dig you all I want.”

“Don’t worry, I can take it.” I winked at him.

She then pointed at Cooper. “You already know that goofball.”

“I do.” I smiled, my hand moving to his. “It’s nice to see you again, Cooper.”

“I haven’t had a chance to officially welcome you to the company,” he said, “but we’re very excited to have you on board. Congratulations.”

“Thank you,” I responded.

The moment our hands released, Jo said, “We’ve somewhat bounced between the Daltons and the Spades, but we’re back to the Daltons now.” She was pointing at the man next to Cooper. “And that right there is Camden. He went to high school with Macon, where they played soccer together.”

“Ahhh, yes, I’ve heard your name a bunch.” I reached forward to greet him.

“Great to finally meet you, Brooklyn,” Camden said. “I’ve heard your name more than a bunch.”

I laughed.
