No sooner have the three of us rounded the front of the car, when another one comes bouncing around the track behind us.

“Bet Ellis is loving that,” Ezra teases as Devin’s truck practically leaves the ground when he hits another pothole.

Shaking my head at them, I step up to J.

“Don’t even think about questioning me,” he hisses.

Holding my hands up in defense, I search his eyes, trying to find the answer for myself.

“I’ll be okay when we have them back.”

I nod. What else can I fucking do?

I’m still trying to come up with something to say when movement through the trees catches my eye.

My fingers twitch as I reach for the gun tucked into my waistband.

Okay, so maybe I lied earlier about how much I actually trust Aubrey.

I’m about to pull it free when she finally emerges from the shadows.

The second she steps into the sun, her dark hair practically glows and Devin and Ezra immediately stop talking.

I don’t need to look back to know that their jaws just hit the ground.

Aubrey really is that beautiful. It’s part of the reason she is so good at her job.

Her full, red lips part to say something, but I beat her to it. I’m not here for a nice little chit-chat like the other night at her hotel room.

“What’s going on? Where are they?”

“I’ll get to that in a minute,” she promises before looking each of us in the eyes. Her attention lingers a little on JD, concern for him obvious in her usually cold and emotionless eyes. “You are all aware of what’s going to happen once you storm in there, right?”

“Aubs,” I hiss.

“Okay, okay. I’m just making sure. I wouldn’t be your friend if I didn’t at least give you a warning.”

“We need her back,” JD pleads. “Please, just tell us where she is.”

Aubrey looks at J again before focusing back on me. A very small smile twitches at the corner of her lips as she connects the dots.

“Very well,” she agrees. “I had a booty call with your delightful father earlier today and—”

Someone behind me gags before Devin mutters, “Spare us the details of that, please.”

“Trust me, no one needs the details of that. I managed to follow him when he left.”

“And he didn’t see you?” Devin asks.

“I’m not an amateur.” She scoffs, offended by his question. “He led me to an abandoned air base, and straight to an old hangar.”

“Where?” JD barks impatiently.

Pulling her cell from her pocket, she taps at the screen, and a second later, mine buzzes.

“There.”

“Is there protection?” I ask.
