“Oh my God,” I gasp, finding the most incredible log cabin nestled into the trees. “That’s—”

“Unbelievable,” Mav finishes for me.

“How did you find this place?” I ask, in total amazement.

He’s been locked up in that house just as much as I have. When did he get a chance to do all this?

He chuckles lightly. “I’m not just a pretty face, remember.”

Slapping his arm lightly, I allow him to tug me closer.

“Want to check out the inside?”

“Hell yes,” I cry, practically running up the stairs to the deck.

He keys a code in to give us access and then swings the door open for me.

I take off like a toddler in a sweet shop, discovering everything this place has to offer.

Downstairs is a huge open-plan kitchen, dining, living area with floor-to-ceiling windows that lead out to a massive deck that showcases the stunning view of the ocean.

It reminds me a little of Reid’s kitchen that overlooks Harrow Creek, but I shove that thought down as quickly as it emerges.

Upstairs, there are two impressive bedrooms with attached bathrooms most people back home could only dream of.

I quickly choose my favorite—the one with the ocean view, obviously—but when I step out, my eyes catch on the other bedroom and I freeze.

It wasn’t so long ago that Mav and I were living in our house and occupying separate bedrooms. It’s only in the last few days that we’ve shared a bed.

Now we’re alone, will we go back to that? Or is that kiss out in the car a sign of things to come? Is this finally the start of us?

Excitement and anticipation collide in my belly along with all the other emotions I’m battling from our midnight getaway.

Sucking in a deep breath, I roll my neck in hopes of working out the kinks and make my way back downstairs.

I’ve barely made it halfway when the scent of coffee hits me, making my mouth water and my stomach growl.

My legs move faster with my need and when I spill into the kitchen, I find two steaming mugs on the counter while Mav dives through the bag he carried in.

“What’s all that?” I ask as he begins laying it all out.

“Burners, more guns, ammo, enough clothes for a week for both of us.”

“Jesus, Mav. How did you do all—”

“Sheila has had this stuff for a while,” he confesses while placing our clothes into separate piles. “I knew this would happen one day.”

“You knew we’d end up running?” I ask, making sure I’m following.

“Yeah. It was inevitable that things would blow up in our faces at some point. Don’t you think?”

My lips part to argue, but then I think of everything we’ve gone through to get here, and the words fall away.

“So you’ve had this place for a while then?” I ask, my heart skipping a beat at the thought of it being his.

“I wish.” He scoffs. “This was a surprise for both of us.”

“Oh,” I say, hopping up onto a stool at the island and looking around. “Pretty epic one. Where exactly are we?”
