“A family,” I add, feeling so much warmth and love from both of them.

“It’s pretty fuck awesome, huh?” JD mutters. “I get it, though, after a lifetime of not having it, it can be overwhelming as fuck.”

Laying my hand on his, I give him a supportive squeeze back.

“Shit, this smells good,” he then announces before diving for his pasta as if we didn't just have a little moment.

Mav chuckles and leans in to kiss my temple.

“It might be unexpected, but there are worse places to be.”

“You’ve got that right,” I say before reaching for my fork and twirling up some spaghetti. “Oh my God,” I mumble as the flavors explode on my tongue. I shouldn’t be surprised, every single thing Reid has cooked has been incredible, but wow.

“My boy can cook,” Griff announces with a wide grin as he dives in for more.

Silence falls around the table as everyone enjoys Reid’s meal, and it’s not until the bowls are empty that chatter resumes.

The important conversations are pushed aside as uncle and nephew—and JD—reconnect. I sit and listen to everything, soaking up every bit of information I can.

I had no idea how desperate I was to learn everything there is to know about the enigma that is Reid Harris. But I’m like a freaking sponge sucking it all up.

Eventually, though, the conversation takes a turn toward our current situation. And as much as I want to know about what’s coming next, I don’t listen with nearly as much enthusiasm.

And apparently, I’m not the only one who notices.

“Shall we leave them to it?” Aubrey asks from across the table. “I came on my bike and a little birdy”—she flashes a look at Mav—“Told me that you’re a bit of an adrenaline junkie.”

A wide smile spreads across my face.

“Hell yes.”

“Whoa, we get to watch, right?” JD asks, doing a total one-eighty on the other conversation happening around us.

“Such a dog, Julian,” Aubrey chastises.

“Takes one to know one,” he banters back.

“You boys go and talk business. Us girls are going out to play.” Pushing her chair back, Aubrey waits for me to give both Mav and JD a kiss before joining her, a move that drags every set of eyes around the table to me, despite them all knowing what’s happening here. I guess knowing and seeing are two very different things.

My eyes collide with Reid, and my chest compresses as I debate whether I should walk around the table and give him one too.

But in the end, he takes that decision out of my hands when he shoots me a panty-melting grin and says, “Have fun. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”

“Pfft, fat chance of that, Harris,” Aubrey snarks. “Come on, girl. I brought you a spare jacket.”

Together, we disappear down the hall, leaving the boys behind.

Excitement bubbles in my belly at both the prospect of getting on the back of a bike but also, leaving the house.

If I were going with anyone but my men or Aubrey, I might be nervous, but I’m a long way from feeling that way as she leads me out.

“And this is my baby,” she says, waving her hand out to the completely black Kawasaki.

“She’s beautiful,” I say, moving closer and taking in her sleek lines.

I wasn’t a fan of motorbikes until the day Mav handed me a set of leathers and a helmet—to hide my identity as we rode through the streets of Harrow Creek—and took me out for my first ride.

It’s something I didn’t realize I was missing until this very moment.
