“Hell yeah, she is. A better ride than any man I’ve ever met too.”

“I’ll let you know my opinion on that when you bring her to a stop.”

Laughter falls from my lips as I take the jacket Aubrey offers me and quickly throw it around my body, more than eager to get on and feel the wind in my hair.

“We don’t all have three stallions to ride whenever the desire takes us,” Aubrey sulks, a pout on her full lips.

“Never say never. Who knows what’s around the corner.”

She thinks for a moment, something darkening her eyes. But I don’t give her time to linger on it.

“Come on then. Give me a thrill, baby.”

Forgetting whatever just sent her to a dark place, she happily agrees and throws her leg over the bike. She waits for me to join her before she brings the engine to life.

“Woohoo,” I cry as the vibrations of the beast rock through me.

Laughing, Aubrey kicks the stand away and then shoots off, making me shriek with delight as she heads for the tree line.

“Oh my God,” I scream as she barely slows before we disappear into the darkness.

Holding her tighter, I duck my head. No idea why, the trees are well above us, but it just feels right as we bounce over the rough terrain as if we’re on a motocross track.

“You’re fucking crazy,” I bellow over the rumble of the engine and the air whooshing past my ears.

“Woooo,” she screams as we hit a bump and leave the ground.

My stomach drops into my feet, but I fucking love it.

My heart pounds like a bass drum, and my lips tingle with adrenaline as she continues up a bank.

Once we’re at a clearing at the top, she stops the bike and kills the engine.

The house with my men inside is right beneath us. It’s the first time I’ve seen it from the outside, and it’s every bit as breathtaking as the inside.

“Wow, it’s beautiful up here.” The view of Hazard Grove in the distance isn’t all that different from the view of Harrow Creek from Reid’s house.

“Yeah, it’s something,” Aubrey says, but something in her voice drags my eyes away from the town laid out before us in favor of focusing on her.

“What’s wrong?” I ask, studying her as if I’ll get the answer from her eyes alone.

Lifting her arm, she glances at her watch.

“There’s something I need to tell you,” she says.

Panic assaults me. Something is wrong here.

Very. Very wrong.

“What? What is it?”

She hesitates, and just as her lips part to say more, the most almighty bang rips through the air, rocking the ground beneath us.

Spinning around, I stare in horror as a series of windows shatter, glass flying through the air.

My heart jumps into my throat as smoke begins billowing from the building before bright flames begin licking up the side of the building.

My lips part to scream but I’m motionless. Frozen in place as my worst fear plays out before me.
