“5 a.m.”

“Fantastic,” I mutter, pulling the keycard from my pocket.” I’ve no idea what the time is, but I do know it’s not as close to 5 a.m. as I’d like.

“One of us will come and get you and drive you back to the airport.”

“Great. Until then…” I march into my suite and let the door slam behind me.

I have no desire to humor these guys. Yes, they might be connected to some of the most dangerous drug dealers that exist, but I’m not exactly a cute fluffy bunny either.

If they wanted someone to cower and be scared, then they invited the wrong person here.

The second I walk into the living room, my eyes land on a giant clock that covers a big chunk of the wall.

“Brilliant,” I mutter, seeing that I’ve got hours until I’ll be able to get in contact with anyone.

Dropping onto the couch, I twist the thumb drive over and over in my hand, wishing I could see what was on it.

Luciana might have explained the contents, but it’s not enough. I need to see it with my own eyes.

I need the locations she’s already uncovered, where some of the girls and women have gone.

I need the names of the men she has discovered are involved. My father and his inner circle are some of them.

My need to tell JD about the intel I’ve uncovered burns through me.

It isn’t very often that I do something like this and don’t have him by my side. Or at least call him the second I’m done.

But it’s not just him I want to tell.

I want to tell her.

I want to look into Alana’s hopeful blue eyes and tell her that we might be a step closer to her finding out about Kristie. That I have a list of names literally in the palm of my hand that could help uncover so much more.

“Fuck,” I hiss, unable to deal with any of the feelings that woman erupts inside me.

Irritation continues to build within me, making my knee bounce and my fists clench and unclench.

With my eyes on the clock, I swear time moves slower than it ever has in my life.

I have all this intel in my hand and no way to look at any of it. No way to get it to Ellis.

“ARGH,” I bellow, losing my fight with sitting still and pushing to my feet to start pacing.

* * *

“Just answer your motherfucking phone,” I spit, canceling the fifth call to JD since I got my cell back. The second Angel handed it over, I was gone without any kind of thanks. Asshole move? Probably. But I was long past giving any kind of shit after sitting—or pacing—in that suite alone for the past few hours.

He was chattier than Jose was on the way here, but not a lot, and he certainly didn’t say anything worthwhile. Not that I expected him to, but it would have been a little easier to deal with instead of the bullshit small talk.

Everyone in front of me in the queue to get through security all turn around and sneer at me. I can only assume the people behind do the same, but I don’t bother to look.

Trying again, JD’s phone just rings and rings.

It’s the middle of the night, he’s probably asleep…

“Fuck.” I growl.

He should be asleep. He probably is asleep. But that doesn’t stop the ball of dread from growing impossibly large in my gut.
