“We need to get in there,” JD shouts.

“We can’t. Aubrey, where the fuck are you?” Reid barks.

“Fuck. Fuck. This is?—”

I block them out as I crawl closer to my little sister, reaching out to cup her face.

She’s out of it.

Totally fucking out of it.

And when I look down at her arm, I discover why. She’s still got a fucking needle hanging out of her skin.

“Kristie,” I sob, reaching for the syringe and gently pulling it free. “Kristie, baby. It’s me.”

I cup her face, her skin hot and clammy against my palm.

“I’m going to get you out of here. We’re going to be together again,” I promise her. Although how the fuck I’m going to make that happen is beyond me.

Shuffling forward, I pull Kristie into my arms and hold her tight.

She might not know that I’m here right now, but I do, and I’ve waited years for this.

Of course, I dreamed that it would be very, very different. But right now, I’ll take whatever I can get.

“Dove, we’re coming. We’re going to get both of you out of there,” JD says confidently in my ear.

“Please hurry.” I whimper.

I’m still clutching my sister, sobbing into the matted mess that is her hair, when a commotion in the room catches my attention.

Girls scream as furniture screeches against the floor and something crashes loudly.

Fear rocks through me. If any of those girls have called their boss, or any of the men in control of this place, then I’m fucked.

But when I glance over my shoulder, I don’t find a man ready to bring me a whole world of pain but a fierce-looking woman.

“Aubs,” I sob.

“Get up,” she demands.

“I-I… I can’t,” I sob, turning back to my unconscious sister. “I can’t leave her.

“Alana,” Aubrey warns. There isn’t space for any kind of argument in her voice, not that I really have the strength to have one right now. “We’re not leaving her. But if we don’t go now then?—”

There’s another scream from the other side of the room.

“Well, I’d rather not find out.”

There’s more commotion before heavy footsteps pound our way.

“Oh my God,” I gasp when my eyes land on JD.

He looks harassed. His eyes are wide and frantic, but the second they land on me, everything within them settles.

“Dove,” he whispers, rushing over.

“We need to get her out of here,” I cry, clinging to my little sister.
