“Are you going to give us the location or not?” I bark.

“Of course. I’m sitting outside right now, he’s still in there.”

“With hostages?” Mav asks.

“I believe so.”

He rattles off the address.

“Are you alone?” I ask as the building he mentioned appears in my mind. It’s one of the most populated buildings in the center of town.

A very risky and bold move taking them there.

Arrogant motherfucker.

“Yes. I can get a team together if?—”

“Fuck off, we’re not working with the cops.”

“Harris,” Norton sighs. “For once, we might just be on the same side. It’s time for a power shift in this town, and I’m willing to help any way I can.”

I glance at Mav, needing his opinion on whether we trust this motherfucker or not.

I remember Brody from school. He was friends with Mav, so that instantly made us enemies. Plus, his dad was a cop who was dead set on trying to make Harrow Creek a better place.

We were never going to get along.

But the second Mav nods, giving me the okay to move forward with this, I jump in with two feet.

“We’ll be there in thirty. Do not take your eyes off that building.”

“And if he leaves?”

“Then fucking follow him. That motherfucker’s life ends tonight. I don’t care how we have to make it happen.”

“No,” Alana cries while Kristie continues to whimper in the corner. “You’re not killing him.” Silence ripples through the room at her demand before she continues with, “I am.”

“Careful, Mrs. Murray,” Brody warns lightly. “You don’t want to convict yourself before the event.”

“Do not let that motherfucker out of your sight,” I warn, finally releasing Alana from my grip.

“You got it,” he agrees.

He hangs up just before Kristie cries out in pain.

“We need to go. Now,” I say, unwilling to waste any more time fucking about.

“What about Kristie?” Alana asks, looking between the door and the heap of the woman on the floor.

Watching her rips me in two just as much as this situation does her.

“I can’t do it,” Kristie whimpers. “Get me a hit. Please.” She grasps JD’s leg as if he’s the lifeline that will help her.

“Fucking hell,” I groan.

We knew this would be hard, that her withdrawals would throw a whole new heap of problems in our direction, but this wasn’t quite what I had in mind.

“Pet, go and get ready. You’re coming with us.”
