He then surrounds her by the others.

“There,” he says, standing back and assessing his handiwork.

“Who are you and what have you done with Ezra Harris?” I ask in shock.

“What? Every kid has a favorite stuffy. Even the most fucked-up.”

“I didn’t,” I mutter, sitting back down.

“Then you need one,” he says with a smirk.

“I’m good. I’ve got Alana.”

He shakes his head and moves closer, resting his ass on the windowsill.

“So, how’s things?” he asks, his eyes dropping from mine in favor of my wrist.

“Yeah, better. Listen, I’m sorry that you?—"

“Dude, it’s totally cool. It’s what brothers do, right?”

Warmth spreads through me at his words. Reid might have always been my boy, but his brothers accepted me as one of them a long time ago too.

“Well, I owe you one.”

He smirks. “I’m sure I can come up with something.”

“I’m sure you can,” I agree, sinking back into the chair.

“So, tonight was fucked up, huh?”

“Yep. Two down…”

“One to go,” he finishes. “And about fucking time too.”

REID

Isent Mav upstairs once we had Kurt in one of my empty cells. He looked like he needed a minute to himself to deal with everything that’s happened tonight. And I was more than happy to tend to my newest guest alone.

My basement is feeling kinda empty right now.

I might have had someone popping in to check on my inmates while we were gone, but I decided that it was time to thin them out somewhat. We didn’t need the stress of torturing them on top of everything else.

Did I give them the easy way out? Yeah, maybe. They’d probably argue that they’ve been punished enough for their crimes already. They’d all been long begging for death.

Slamming the door on his cell, I open the app that controls everything down here and turn his air conditioning up to max and make the lights as bright as they’ll go.

It’s nothing near what he deserves, but there are others in this house that need me. I’m not wasting my time on that cunt when I could be taking care of them.Especially when he refuses to talk.

Pocketing my cell, I step up to the only open door down here. It’s quiet inside, the complete opposite of when I brought her down here.

Poking my head inside, I find Alana sitting on the cot with Kristie cradled in her arms. She rocks her back and forth as if she was rocking a child to sleep.

My thoughts flicker briefly to the little girl upstairs.

It’s the first time I’ve had a child in my house. A child I’m pretty sure I’m going to have to help look after from here on out.
