She’s as up for this challenge as the rest of us are.

ALANA

My heart is in my throat as I descend the stairs to the basement.

The second I stepped through the door, the air changed, and the scent of torture and death that used to be so familiar to me washes through my nose.

The two hands in mine squeeze, sending silent support through my limbs.

With a fortifying breath, I hit level ground. Keeping my head high, I walk toward where I know they’re waiting.

Reid suggested doing this out in the main room. But after initially agreeing, I realized that it couldn’t happen there. I have too many fond, yet equally painful memories from that room. I don’t want it to be another thing that’s been tainted by him.

The second I step into the room, my eyes land on Reid, who’s standing behind my father. He’s strapped Dad to a chair in nothing but his underwear, but I refuse to look closer yet to see his handiwork. I don’t want him to think that any of this is for him.

It’s not.

It’s for me. And if I decide to give him my attention then it’s on my terms. It’s certainly not because he deserves it because he was my sperm donor once upon a time.

Stepping around him, I walk straight into Reid’s arms and press a kiss to his lips.

“Hey, Pet,” he breathes when I pull back. “Is this how you wanted it?”

Finally, I look down.

My heart skips a beat as I take in the scene I painted for Reid not so long ago.

It’s not a fucking pretty one.

Hell, I’m sure it’s going to be the feature of more than a handful of my dreams, but for once, he just might feature without it being a nightmare.

“Perfect,” I muse, taking in the blood that’s dripping from his wrists, and then the pools of it at his feet.

“The barbed wire was a nice touch,” Reid tells me, pride evident in his voice.

“I learned from the best.”

“We’re not piercing his nipples, though, right?” JD asks. “That would just be a little weird after— ow.” He moans when Mav slaps him upside the head.

“No, it doesn’t hurt enough,” I explain.

At no point does Dad say anything or even bother to lift his head while we talk around him.

“So, what’s next, Doll?” Mav asks, studying me closely as I walk back around the front of the chair.

I come to a stop right in front of him, yet he still doesn’t dignify me with even a glance.

“So many questions that need answering,” I muse. Initially, my first question would have been about his little helper who tried to blow us up. But thanks to Ellis, Reid has already dealt with that corrupt little shit. “But I think I’ll start with an easy one… Where is my little sister,Dad?”

Silence.

Suddenly, Dad’s head is wrenched back, giving him little choice but to look at me as Reid growls. “Look at your daughter when she talks to you.”

I smirk, loving that we have this man totally at our mercy.

I can’t lie. I’m feeling pretty fucking good right now.
