I could certainly hear her though.

The bond that JD and Daisy share already is incredible. Watching them together makes my heart shatter every time. He’s so sweet with her, so patient, so… everything.

Obviously, she was already close to Mav. She’s always looked up to him like he’s some kind of god, and thankfully, that connection has only grown in the past few days.

It was Reid she was a little more wary of.

I got it. Reid is incredible in so many ways, but he’s not exactly child-friendly, and he doesn’t give off vibes that he wants to play, unless it’s with me or with guns, of course.

But that all changed the first time he made her pancakes.

The way she stared at him after eating that first mouthful is something I’ll never forget. It seems that she is very much a girl after his own heart because he totally won her over with food.

It took her all of four minutes to inhale that first pancake and with a face covered in Nutella, she looked up at him and said, “Weid, pweas, can I have some more?”

The way he melted at her inability to say her Rs. It was like nothing I’d ever seen before.

The size of the lump that crawled up my throat was beyond belief as tears burned my eyes.

I fought desperately to keep it in. If she saw me crying, she’d think she’d done something wrong, and that was far from reality.

What she’d done, just her presence in this house, turned it from the incredibly haunting place I loved into a real home.

JD wasn’t as successful at hiding his reaction and he snorted loudly before Daisy turned her eyes on him.

“Wot?” she asked, an adorable frown wrinkling her brow.

“Daisy,” he says. “You are without doubt, the best almost four-year-old I have ever met. Never change.”

She thought for a moment before her slight frown turned into a beaming smile.

“And I agree, more pancakes, please,” he said, holding his equally empty plate out for Reid to refill.

“Oh yeah,” I ask, sitting her on the counter next to the sink and reaching for my hairbrush. “He’s going to need to stop spoiling you.”

“No, he doesn’t,” she huffs, putting her hands on her hips.

“What color do you want today?” JD asks, reaching for two bows on the shelf beside him and holding them up. “Pink or purple?”

“Umm.” Daisy thinks like it’s the most important question she’s ever been asked in her short life. “Purple.”

“Good choice, baby girl,” he tells her with a grin before walking over and holding it for me to slide into her hair once I’ve tamed her curls.

Moving closer, JD wraps his arm around my waist and presses a kiss to my cheek.

“You’re taking forever,” he complains.

“I think you had plenty of entertainment,” I counter.

“Never a lack of that in this house,” he teases.

Daisy’s little tummy rumbles as she watches us.

“Was that you?” JD asks with a gasp. “You need pancakes right now, little missy.”

Slipping his hands under her arms, he lifts her from the counter and flies her toward the door, making her squeal in excitement.

“Come on, Lana,” he calls, not willing to leave me behind.
