“That’s my wife you’re talking about.”

“Yep, and she is hot as fuck, man. Hot as fuck.”

Mav wants to reply, but he’s aware that everyone is listening, so he wisely shuts his mouth.

We trek through the undergrowth for a few minutes before movement ahead catches my eye.

I stop, ensuring JD plows straight into the back of me because the stupid prick isn’t paying any attention, and just take in the sight.

It’s dark with only the light of the moon illuminating the trees. If you didn’t know they were there, you’d miss them. But between every trunk and behind every bush, there is a man—or woman—dressed in black and armed up to their eyeballs, ready to stand beside me and fight for this town.Hell, if they’ve got this close, then they’ve already started.

Hawks, Ravens, Devils, Kings, and a few more have all stood by their word and have shown up.

For me.

For us.

Fuck.

I don’t think I’ve experienced anything quite so humbling in all my life.

“Youdid this,” Mav says, taking in the same scene.

I shake my head. “No. We did this. Every single motherfucker who wants better for this place. I might have spearheaded it, but this isn’t me.” Emotion clogs my throat as I consider the enormity of this.

Victor has thrown everything he could at us. Hell, he’s tried blowing us up twice, and yet he still thinks he’s untouchable.

Ripping my eyes from my army, I stare at the building.

Back in the day, I’m sure it was stunning. Photographs online show it looking like some kind of old English castle with turrets and everything. But now, after years of fighting for the land it’s sitting on, it’s barely standing.

One entire wing has collapsed, leaving nothing but rubble. The place is in darkness, showing no signs of life. The thought of him not being in there flickers through my mind, but I know he is.

Deep within that building is the man we’ve been searching for. All we have to do now is find him before he finds us.

Holding my head high, I press my finger to my ear.

“On my command,” I warn. I swear to God, a ripple of excitement flows through the air. “Let’s take this motherfucker down.

The surge of movement at my words makes all my hairs stand on end.

As much as I want to do this alone, I know I can’t. Victor has ensured that this is bigger than a father/son rivalry.

He’s got his army, and now I’ve got mine. And if I’ve done my research correctly—which I have—mine is a lot more powerful than his.

“Approaching the building,” Devin says in my ear. “Confirm positions.”

A series of confirmations ring out from Cash, Ezra, Ellis and a handful of others, letting us know they’re ready to breach the building.

“Three. Two. One.”

The ground shakes beneath our feet as they rip through the doors and make entry to the building, giving away our presence.

We know how many men are inside, what we don’t know is exactly where they are.

The three of us hang back while our men spill into the building.

It only takes a minute for the gunfire to start. It’s like music to my fucking ears.
