She’s styled it straight and messy.

I look edgy, cool… sexy.

“And this is going to blow their minds.”

Sparkle fills the mirror before me and I spin around on the stool to take in the small, royal blue sequin shift dress in her hands.

“Oh my God, Aubrey. That’s stunning.”

“It’s definitely more your color than it is mine,” she says with a smile. “Now get your clothes off and slip it on.”

Pulling my hoodie over my head, I drag my leggings down my legs and stand there in my panties and tank.

“Keep going,” she encourages when I hesitate. I might not think twice about getting naked in front of JD, Mav, and Reid, but exposing myself to a woman is a whole new experience. “Despite what you might have heard about me, I’m only here for the cock.”

A loud laugh bursts out of me and I quickly cover my mouth.

It’s nothing short of a miracle that no one has come to find me yet. If they hear anything, one of them is bound to come searching. And that can’t happen until I’m ready and have figured out how the hell we’re going to convince them that this is okay.

Stripping out of my tank, I let the dress slip over my body. The satin on the inside feels incredible against my skin. I bet it’s the best kind of dress to go out dancing in.

I close my eyes for a beat, trying to imagine how it would feel with a pair of warm hands clamped around my hips and a hard body pressed against my back.

“Alana?” Aubrey whispers.

“Sorry. I’m sorry,” I stutter.

“You’ve nothing to apologize for.”

I smile at her, feeling her silent support all the way to my toes.

“Thank you,” I say honestly. “I’m not sure I really appreciated how much I needed a girlfriend. You’ve no idea how much this…” I say, gesturing between us and the vanity. “Means to me.”

This time when she smiles, she’s less sure of herself.

“Not sure I’ve ever been someone’s girlfriend before,” she confesses. “I’ve always been one of the guys. Girls usually hate me.”

“If I had the opportunity to spend time with any, I would probably be saying the same.”

She smiles at me as understanding and empathy pass between us.

I don’t know her story, and I won’t pry. If she wants to tell me then she can, but based on the job she does, I can’t imagine it’s pretty.

“Nah, you’d have been cheer captain and prom queen, and you know it.”

A somewhat bitter laugh spills from my lips as I shake my head.

“I’m not sure about that, but it’s a nice thought.”

The closest I’ve ever gotten to cheerleading and prom is through movies.

“Things are going to change for you now,” Aubrey says honestly. “Those men out there, they’re going to offer you the world once all this is over. No dream or wish is going to be too big.”

My heart flutters wildly in my chest because I know it’s true. And I’ve no idea what I’ve done to deserve it.

“Ready?” Aubrey asks with a naughty glint in her eyes as I stand tall after slipping my feet into a pair of her shoes. Thank fuck we’re the same size or I’d be forced to wear my sneakers.

“Err…” Suddenly, this doesn’t seem like such a good idea.
