She leaned back in her seat and smirked. “Are you ever going to tell me about them?”

He laughed. “Trust me, you’d never believe me if I tried.”

She smiled, she didn’t mind his secrets. He’d already given her more than anyone else had, and she appreciated all of it. “You are one mysterious man, Mr. Primis.”

Adam winked and then pointed out the front window to a white villa sitting along the ocean side. “We’re here.”

Her mouth fell open. “It’s beautiful.”

“Thanks.” The drive pulled up through the gates and parked at the top of the round driveway. Adam stepped out, and before she could open her door, he had it open and was already lifting her out. “Grace should be here soon to check on you, but until then, I’ll get you out on the balcony and enjoying the view.”

As he carried her through the house, Adam made sure to point out all the important places. Kitchen, bathrooms, and his room which he insisted that she stay in and when she put up a fuss a sweet voice of Melody from the front desk of the Chalice Hotel interrupted them.

“All of your stuff has been moved over here, Ms. Ramesses.”

Ella’s hand flew to her chest at the surprise of someone else being in the house. Adam laughed, and she could feel the rumble in his chest as she was pressed against him. “Sorry, I forgot to tell you I had Melody bring your stuff over.”

“But I can’t stay here, this is your house.”

“You can and will stay here, the hotel is harder for Grace to get to if you have another emergency. This way, she’s nearby, and you get your view of the ocean, and I am more than capable of sleeping at the hotel to give you some privacy.”

Her chest clenched. She didn’t want privacy, not if it meant him leaving. Ella knew it was selfish, but he was the kindest, sexiest man she’d ever known and even though she couldn’t be with him, she would at least like to enjoy his company with the little time she had left.

She smiled up at him. “I don’t’ think that will be necessary.”

He leaned in closer to her, his lips almost touching hers. “I was hoping you’d say that.” Pulling back, he cleared his throat and carried her out to the white balcony and gently placed her in the most comfortable lounger she’d ever laid in.

Oh yeah, this is heaven…

Adam left and Melody went over where all of her stuff was unpacked at. Most of it residing in Adam’s room and the master bathroom. She helped Ella get settled in the chair, offering her water, wine, or whatever she wanted, but Ella waved her off.

“You don’t have to wait on me.”

“It’s my pleasure.” Melody said. “Now, would you like me to help you get dressed into something a little more comfortable than jeans? Maybe some pajamas or lounge pants?”

Ella’s cheeks burned. “You don’t have to dress me. I can do it.”

Melody pursed her red lips together and frowned. “I used to be a nurse in another life. I know when a patient is uncomfortable. I would like to help if you’d let me.”

Ella took a deep breath and swallowed her pride before nodding. “Okay, yes, please I would like some help, but are we doing it right here where everyone can see?”

Melody chuckled and reached over to pull a white curtain around the shaded part of the balcony. “There, better?”

Ella had to admit, the help was definitely needed. Her black leg refused to bend or move at the knee, and it had started creeping up to her hip. She couldn’t imagine what she would do if this thing took over her left side. Melody was a pro and with very little effort she had Ella undressed and into an adorable pajama set of red shorts and an adorable fitted tee with little devils and demons cavorting on the front. And even better, and to her surprise, the clothes fit like they were made for her. Comfortable and yet hugging her curves perfectly, so she didn’t look like a frumpy mess.

Melody looked Ella over and hummed to herself. She gathered Ella’s hair and whatever magic she’d work seemed to satisfy her before she moved on to wiping Ella’s makeup off and pulling out a bag of cosmetics.

“Whoa, what’s going—”

“Shush.” Melody whispered. “Your makeup is for a daytime adventure, it’s evening, at a handsome man’s house, a man who looks at you like you hung the moon, and you are lounging in the cutest pj’s ever getting ready to watch the sunset with him.” She puckered her lips to encourage Ella to follow suit and applied some gloss. “You need a softer, nighttime look that says, I put in an effort but not too much because I know you already like what you see.”

Ella couldn’t help but laugh. “You can not be serious.”

Melody held Ella’s chin in her hand and stared into her eyes. Ella felt a bit uncomfortable, like the hotel receptionist was looking deep into her soul. “Ella, I’ve worked for Adam for an eternity and I can tell you I’ve never seen him look at anyone the way he looks at you. And girl, if time is running out, don’t you owe it to yourself to jump overboard with both feet and never look back? Live in the moment, you only live once.”

Tears started to well up in Ella’s perfectly dusted eyes, and Melody squealed. “Oh, no, no, no. No tears, you are going to have fun.” She pulled out a package of tissues and dabbed them around Ella’s eyes to catch the tears before they could streak down her cheeks.

She leaned forward and kissed Ella’s forehead. Ella smiled and watched as Melody gathered her makeup. Something shimmered, and Ella looked up to see horns on Melody’s head. “I don’t know why I didn’t notice your horns. I love them.”
