“What are you talking about, Moira?”

“I’m starting my own consulting business. Right here, in Hot Springs. Jeff is already onboard, so when issues like this come up around town, I have a contractor on the books already. Plus, it sounds like the developers are getting run out of town, so the families who are being harassed by the EPA won’t even have an option to sell. I want to help them keep their land.”

“That’s honorable of you, Moira. Ah, shit!” George grimaced as the stallion slammed him against the paddock, but he kept his grip on the reins.

“You’re sure?” Grant questioned in all seriousness.

“I’ve never been more sure,” I replied, rising up on my tiptoes to kiss him. “I just wanted to tell you the good news. The bad news is, Day is still sicker than a dog and I need to go disinfect the house before we all get it.”

“I’ll be inside to start on dinner soon,” Grant said, gently patting my ass before I had a chance to turn away from him.

I gave him a look. “I can cook!”

“No, you can’t.” He chuckled, tipping his hat at me before turning back to George.

That little motion he did when he touched his hat always did something to my body that was hard to explain. I straightened myself out and went back into the house, stopping in the kitchen to get the cleaning supplies before trudging upstairs.

Grant took off his watch and set it on the dresser before shedding his clothes, his muscles cut and rigid in the moonlight filtering through the windows of our room. I was already in bed, a book resting on my knees as he walked into the bathroom to get ready for bed.

I flipped the pages, barely paying attention to what I was reading, as I waited for him to come get in bed with me.

I had on one of his big, comfy, worn-in shirts like usual. But tonight, I had absolutely nothing underneath.

I felt a thrill of excitement and longing creep through me as I swung my bare legs out of bed and padded over to the bathroom.

“What?” he asked, his toothbrushing hanging out of his mouth.

I leaned on the doorframe, my arms crossed over my chest.

“I don’t think I ever properly thanked you for building a home office,” I replied, tapping my fingers on my elbow.

Grant narrowed his eyes at me suspiciously as he bent to spit and rinse. He wiped his mouth on the back of his hand and leaned against the counter, looking me up and down.

“You thanked me a few times if I remember correctly—”

I took a step toward him, smiling.

“Oh,” he murmured in a low, rasping voice. “I see, you’re justreallythankful—”

I placed my hands on his chest and looked up at him. He took a breath, his body going rigid under my touch. He was warm, almost fevered, and beneath my hand I could feel his heart beginning to race. The effect I had on him was enough to make me wet, and I rubbed my thighs together to ease the sudden tension there.

He caressed my cheek, his free hand pressing into the small of my back as he pulled me closer. “You want to thank me, huh?”

“Yeah,” I breathed, then sucked in a breath as he kissed my neck. I trailed my fingers down his chest and over his boxers, feeling how hard he was already. I trembled with excitement, and he sensed it, swiftly scooping me up and setting me on the counter before I could protest.

He ran his hands up my bare thighs as he kissed me deeply, parting my lips with his tongue. His hands paused when he reached my lips, and he let out a breath in a low, rasping chuckle.

“Moira… where’s your underwear?”

“I’m not wearing any,” I purred.

“Obviously,” he replied, looking down at me as he slid two fingers over my clit, then down.

My head lolled back, my hair drifting over the surface of the counter when he entered me with his fingers. I tightened around his touch, wanting more—so,somuch more.

“Put your legs around my waist,” he demanded in a low growl that had every downy hair on my body standing on end.
