“What about breakfast? When am I supposed to eat?”

“That’s not my concern. Training you how to use the Vorpal Sword is my only concern.”

“I’ll learn faster if I’m not starving,” I pointed out. I knew we were getting close to the Great Hall, because I could smell the tantalizing scents of fresh food. They were making my mouth water.

“You’re not starving,” Jack scoffed. “You’ve never known true hunger.”

“Yes I have!” I argued, and stopped walking. Jack whirled around and I pointed at my stomach. “Listen!”

Right on cue, my stomach let out a ferocious growl.

Jack’s mouth twisted from a restrained scowl to a cunning grin.

“Very well. Youshouldeat to your heart’s content. Who am I to deny you?”

To my pleasant surprise, Jack returned to my side and escorted me into the Great Hall.

I thought I’d died and gone to brunch heaven.

The air was perfumed with the irresistible aromas of a decadent feast. The Great Hall was bathed in soft blue light, streaming through large frosted windows, giving a surreal glow to the opulent setting. Long, elegantly draped tables stretched across the room, adorned with fine linens and sparkling silverware, inviting me to indulge in the culinary delights.

At one end of the hall, a magnificent buffet table was piled with a cornucopia of freshly baked bread, croissants, and pastries. Towering platters held stacks of fluffy, golden pancakes and waffles, drizzled with rich maple syrup and topped with fresh berries and dollops of whipped cream.

Nearby, a pair of chefs expertly flipped omelets, all made to order with a selection of cheeses, herbs, and fresh vegetables. Another chef stood behind a table, carving thick slices of succulent, honey-glazed ham and tender roast beef.

Rows of chafing dishes were sending out faint wisps of steam, revealing scrambled eggs that looked as soft as clouds. I saw piles of crispy bacon, savory sausages, and seasoned potatoes.

Their tantalizing scent mingled with the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee and an assortment of teas. Alongside, an array of fresh juice—orange, cranberry, apple, and more—all of them glistening like precious gems in elegant pitchers.

The clinking of cutlery and the hum of excited conversations filled the air, punctuated by soft background music. People from the White Queen’s court mingled and moved around. Some of them sat at tables scattered around the hall, while others were drifting from one table of food to another.

My eyes lit up with excitement and I made a beeline for the juice table.

“Mimosas? Ohhellyeah!”

I grabbed a champagne glass, then found a plate and started loading it up. Normally I’d have some self-restraint when going out to brunch, but I’d never seen anything like this decadent display before.

Restraint had no business being in a place like this.

And also, I hadn’t had breakfast. Or dinner the night before. Come to think of it, I couldn’t remember the last time I’d eaten.

So yeah. I was fucking starving.

Jack followed behind me in silence as I found a table and sat down. He politely shook his head when I offered him a tender biscuit.

“What about an apricot tart?”

“No.”

I popped the mini tart into my mouth, then finished my mimosa. To my sheer wonder, the glass instantly refilled itself. I gulped half of it before digging into my scrambled eggs.

“You want a waffle?”

“No.”

“Bacon?”

“No.”
