How could one man look so damn good?

“You wish, Danny Boy. I have far better things to do than to stalk you,” I scoffed. “I was out for my morning run but should say that you are likely the one stalking me. You don’t run, so what is your excuse for being out so early in the morning like this?”

“Aww, the fun nickname is back again,” he said sarcastically. “Actually, I do run; I have been running for the last year.”

I laughed, “Bullshit. I have been running here since I moved here and have never seen you. You’re lying.”

“What reason do I have to lie? I just moved into a place nearby. I like the park, and it’s a good way to start my day. Usually, I come earlier than this, and I—why the hell am I explaining myself to you?”

Wait a minute. There were only two residential buildings in this area. What were the odds…

“Do you happen to live in ‘The Blue Ray’?”

He paused, “How do you know that?”

“I live in the same building.”

The shock on his face was comical. “You’re fucking joking.”

I wish I were. What were the odds that I had not seen this man for over a year, since he moved to this city, but suddenly we couldn’t escape each other?

First, it had been the firm, and now it was the same residential building we lived in. I had lived in that building for months and had not even seen him once. It was like fate was playing a cruel twisted game with us. I could not escape this man, or maybe he could not escape me. If Selena from a year ago could see me now, she would be over the moon happy, but now I was trying to stay away from Daniel.

“Did you do this on purpose?” His accusation was a little offensive.

“Umm, I have far better things to do than chase you, Daniel. I have lived in the Blue Ray for nearly six months now. If anything, you moved in after me.”

He ran a tired hand on his face and stared me down. “Okay, listen, clearly, this is not ideal for either of us. Nonetheless, our dynamic has to remain professional. You should keep your distance from me, and I will do the same for you. Don’t speak to me unless absolutely necessary.”

The man looked positively stressed out. He acted like this was the worst possible news he could have gotten.

“What about if I run out of sugar and need to borrow some? I could make my way down the hallway and knock.” I was only teasing him, but he didn’t look the slightest bit amused.

“The penthouse doesn’t have regular access. You need a key card.”

“Why am I not surprised? Of course, you would live in the penthouse.” The man was a billionaire with a capital B, it was not shocking at all. “Fine, I will stay out of your way, and you will stay out of mine. To give you peace of mind.”

“Good, now I will carry on with my run. Don’t be late for work.” He gave me the once over, “Make sure you shower, you look a little…rough.”

I glared at him, “This is the sweat of a high-performance athlete. And besides, I don’t sweat. I glisten.”

“Sure,” he drew out.

He took off running, leaving me ogling his rather toned backside. I had to slap myself out of it, mentally.

No flings. No sex. Just work.

I tore my gaze from his retreating figure and sighed heavily. No flings. No sex. Just work.

Sooner or later, it would all sink in, and controlling my bodily reactions around him would become much easier.

Off Balance

Daniel

Iwatchedherwalkinto the building with a coffee mug in her hand and a smile on her face. She was far from the sweaty woman I had met on my run this morning. She cleaned up well, actually. Her hair was pulled into a tight but professional ponytail, and her pencil skirt and heels made it hard not to think about what I would do if I got a nice grip on that ponytail from behind. What was I thinking? Not only was this woman working at my firm, but she was living in my fucking building—life was cruel and twisted. There were no solid boundaries anymore. She had somehow managed to infiltrate all my sacred sanctuaries. I had to make sure that I kept the mental boundaries visible in my mind. Selena tended to blur boundaries due to her rebellious nature.
