There had been so much rage and pain behind her gaze that it screamed a thousand different

things, but none of which I could decipher myself.

I wanted to ask but knew it would do nothing for the conversation. She knew she had fucked up, and that had been enough for me—at least for the time being.

I tapped my finger on the steering wheel and watched the seconds tick by. The sun was peering beyond the horizon, and if we didn’t leave soon, I knew we would catch the morning traffic rush even though it was a Saturday.

I saw her walk out of the elevator with her small suitcase. She wore simple sweats with a bun in her hair, and her face had no trace of any make-up. Selena was one of those women who didn’t need makeup to look beautiful. She was just effortlessly breathtaking.

I may not want her that way, but I was not blind. I knew when I saw a beautiful woman, and Selena Abrams was just that—beautiful.

I got out of the car and met her halfway. Her steps faltered, and her eyes met mine briefly before she looked away. I saw the color slowly flush her cheeks, and her bottom lip found its way between her teeth. The action stirred something primal within me. Clearly last night had made an impact on her as well.

I cleared my throat, looking down at her. “You’re late.”

Her eyes snapped to me, “Oh, we’re back to this, are we? It’s 6:00 a.m. on the dot.”

The blue in her eyes darkened as it mixed in with the purple. She wanted to murder me; the rage was evident in her eyes.

“I said weleaveat six, not that you get down here at six. Thanks to you, we will now have to navigate the morning traffic.”

She scowled, “Well, the longer we sit here arguing, the more traffic accumulates. Let’s go.”

She sidestepped me, but then I caught the handle of her suitcase, but she didn’t let go. She looked over her shoulder at me, looking annoyed.

“I can handle my bag.”

“Just because you can doesn’t mean that you should.” She may have pissed me off yesterday, but I was still a gentleman. “Let go.”

She jutted her chin up in defiance. She was always stubborn even when she didn’t need to be.

“Stop being a child.”

“Let go of my bag.” She bit out, “I’m not incapable.”

“I know that. I am just trying to be a gentleman.”

She scoffed, “Sure you are. Just like you were last night. Let. Go.”

She ripped the suitcase handle from my hand and walked to the car. She put the bag in the back and opened the back door. I crossed the distance and shut the door when she tried to get in.

“What the hell is wrong with you? You nearly slammed my fingers in the door.” She hissed at me, the fury in her eyes only intensifying.

“I’m not your chauffeur. Get in the front.”

“No.” She crossed her arms over her chest. “I don’t want to sit in the front with you.”

“It wasn’t a request.”

“You aren’t my boss right now, so you can’t make me. I want to lie down and sleep. It’s too early in the morning to go back and forth with you.”

I arched my eyebrow, “You can lay down in the front.”

“That’s dangerous. What if we crash and the airbag snaps my neck.”

“It won’t snap your neck. Don’t be dramatic, and I am a careful driver. It’s only a five-hour drive. We are wasting time just arguing like this.”

I knew she wouldn’t give up because Selena always had to have her way. “No.”
