“Are they sure?”“Unfortunately. They are good at what they do- I gotta give it to them. Even though I can’t stand that Brandon kid, he’s good. I know he’ll find a place as a lawyer soon, and I hate to say it, but hell, I’d hire him.”

“I like him. He’s always been nothing but nice to me.”

“I’m sure.”

“Jealous much?”

“I’m pretty sure you were just giving me shit for knowing another woman’s first name.”

“Touché. Carry on.”

“So, my second phone call was to Ashton himself. I told him about what we had found out, and at first, he was silent and tried to deny it, but when I explained what Lisa and Brandon had discovered and that we had actual bank accounts linked to his estate, he broke down.”

“That prick.”

“Yeah, I told him that it was shitty and reminded him that I even gave him the opportunity to come clean with me. We could have worked out some deal. But now that the attorney/client trust had been broken, there was no coming back from it. I explained that he needed to find someone else to represent him and that we were dropping him.”

“Aaannd I’m guessing he didn’t take it well.”

“Of course not. Needless to say, we won’t be working for Mr. LeVrous anymore.

“I know that was hard, but I’m proud of you, Danny boy. You did the right thing.”

“I did. Now, I’m going to wait here in this chair while you take a nap. They’re going to start getting your discharge papers ready so we can go home.”

“I won’t be able to sleep unless you’re in this bed with me,” I replied.

“Selena, as much as I want to be in any bed with you, there is no room on there for me.”I scooted over to reveal a good half of the twin-sized hospital bed and patted it in an effort to change his mind.

He sighed and squeezed in next to me. We held each other tight, and for the first time in my life, I knew everything was going to be okay.

Chapter thirty-five

Be Mine

Selena

Sevenmonthslater

“I never want to go back,” I walked up the beach toward the lounge chairs that had been set up for us by the staff. The crystal blue waters were the perfect backdrop of paradise. Daniel lay on one of the chairs, reading a book he had picked up at the airport. He looked like the Greek god he was. I often had to reach over and pinch him to make sure he was real.

Daniel had whisked me away on an early birthday gift. I was more than happy to take the opportunity to leave the city. Finding time to ourselves when we were completely alone was hard. He was always busy, and so was I. I loved my job and advancing my career alongside him, but I often missed him even if we did live together.

“There is always that option,” he set his book down and opened his arms so I could sit on his lap. “All you have to do is say the word, and you can have all that you want.”

I rolled my eyes and made myself comfortable in his hold. I peered up at him from his chest and pressed my lips to his. It was only a brief peck, but it was enough to set my body alight. When I pulled away, his green eyes shined brightly, the hint of a smile on his lips. I turned to face the water, my back leaning against his front.

“We can’t just leave your entire empire behind to play house, Daniel Sinclair,” I looked around the private beach that we had all to ourselves. “Even if that house happens to be on a private island in the middle of crystal blue waters.”

I was never one who cared for money, but dating a billionaire truly did have its perks. When he had told me that we were going to a paradise getaway, I had thought of a resort of some sort—not an elite island that we had to ourselves. It was safe to say that this man used every arsenal at his disposal to make sure that no matter what it was, a smile was kept on my face. How could I not love him?

“I told you this before: whatever life you want to live is the one I will give you. Just say the word, and I will drop it all right now. The firm, the real estate, and the investments. None of it matters if you aren’t happy.”

“And if your empire crumbles?” I indulged his idea for a moment.

“Then I didn’t build a strong enough empire.” He pulled me into him. His lips connected with my shoulder. The gesture was so sweet and tender. “You are my life, Selena Abrams. I have accomplished all that there is to accomplish for me. Now, my focus is on you.”

Puddle. I was nothing but a puddle of nothingness in his hold.
