“You would have known if you hadn’t run off.”

“My head is fucked.” He rakes a hand through his hair.

“That’s the only explanation for going off on Mom like that. But thanks, man. I was about to defend Bianca. You’ll get Mom’s wrath instead.” I playfully punch his shoulder.

“I’m already going to have to deal with Mom. I want Bianca. I want to get her out of here.”

“You have an interesting way of showing it. You should have stuck around and joined us,” Sean says from the kitchen.

“You had sex with her?” Last night’s level of anger returns.

I answer, “No, but if she needed to forget her ex, I’d say, ‘mission accomplished’. She was game for both of us, messing around. What do you guys think about sharing her?”

“How would that work?” I ask, variations of sex acts already vivid in my mind. It’s the public life stuff that poses issues I’m not sure any of us are ready to deal with.

Mark finds relative calm. “We should invite her over to discuss what this is.”

“She has to address invitations for mom this morning. Carl and I offered to help but she declined. She’s going to let us know when she’s finished.”

I furrow my brow and start to say something but Sean cuts me off.

“Yep, we’re at her mercy. Just sit and wait.”

I’m not sure what he’s up to but after Mark’s hissy fit last night, I’m fine with getting petty as fuck and leaving him out of our actual plan. Sean and I arranged to drive Bianca to the post office.

The hours tick by slowly until the moment I’ve waited for. Invitations are mailed. Her friends are gone. Now the elevator ride back to the penthouse. I watch her in the mirrored wall.

Her smile. Her innocence. Her fun nature. I’m captivated. She’s everything this family isn’t. And she’s exactly what I need. Figuring out how to play this has wreaked havoc on my brain. I can’t lose her. I just don’t know how to keep her.

For now, we can have fun.

Through her sundress, I cup her ass, giving me a perfect handhold. Why she’s wearing a sundress in December is beyond me. She steps to the side and I follow suit until she’s pinned against Sean. Her mischievous grin eggs me on the whole time.

I tug at my collar, “Sorry, I didn’t put a tie on today.”

With the mirrored walls, I can see Bianca from several angles. It’s the way it should always be, I should be all-knowing about her. A ding pulls us back to reality. I step away.

The doors open and the fuck if Mom and Mark aren’t standing there. Mark is livid. Mom gasps in horror, “What are the three of you…?”

“Just goofing off,” I say playfully. Sean pushes Bianca past Mom.

“Your father is coming home around ten this evening. I told him fresh gingerbread would be waiting. I’ll be at the spa getting a tune-up before he gets back.”

“Yes, ma’am. I’ll get some gingerbread made,” Bianca says. It takes me a second to process that Bianca understood my mom was telling her to make it. I thought my mom would have it delivered from the bakery. Fuck, she has Bianca under her thumb.

I come to Bianca’s defense, “What if she has plans?”

“She can speak for herself. Her father works very hard to afford this lifestyle. And when she goes back to school, he’ll pay her tuition. I’m sure she’ll be happy to do this small favor for him.”

Bianca says, “I love baking. It’s no problem.”

“Yes, and Bianca already offered to do the baking for the family holiday party since she’ll be home.”

Mark says, “When is that?”

“The twenty-second.” Mom reminds him with a stern look.

He grimaces. “Shit. I think that’s when I’m heading to Poland with my friends. They have a stellar holiday light display from what I’ve heard.”
