I knew Kian was close enough that he could have already been speaking to me, telling me why he was here. The fact that he wasn’t made every nerve in my body flare to life, my magic racing along my skin.
“Kian, are you all right?” I called out, unable to wait a moment longer.
A bit tired, but I am fine.
He came out of the water and people near us all gasped in either horror or shock as more and more of his massive body became visible under the dock lighting. I stood my ground, glad to see my friend, but also terrified of whatever news he brought. I reached a hand out and placed it on his wet head as I moved to meet him.
It took one look into his eyes to confirm what I already knew. “Kian, what is it? What’s wrong?”
Amory sent me. There has been another assassination attempt.
