Page 6 of Gio's Possession

Letting go of Daryl’s throat, I straighten his shirt and make sure he looks presentable. I wouldn’t want to traumatize my angel when she came back out here.

“That’s right motherfucker, she is MINE.”

Hurrying out of the gas station and around the corner so I am out of my girl’s sight, I take out my cell and dial my second-in-command’s number.

“Marcello, I need you to come up to the gas station and follow the clerk home. His name is Daryl. I want his tongue and his eyes.”

“Sure thing, boss. No eyes, no tongue. What did the dead man do to piss you off?”

“He looked at something that wasn’t his to look at.” I know Marcello won’t question me. Besides my father, I trust him more than anyone else in the world. He’s my best friend, my right-hand man. Daryl is as good as dead already. Anyone who looks at Angel wrong will suffer the same fate. I am going to find out who hurt her, and they will pay too.

Angel doesn’t know it yet, but she needs me as much as I need her. A plan is coming together in my head. I am obsessed with this woman. The obsession has started, and it’s snowballing. No one will stop it now. Not my father, not Marcello, not even my angel herself. No one will come between us.

Marcello

As I hang up the phone with Gio, I can’t help but smile at the conversation we just had. For him to order me to kill a man, something has just become very important to him. Gio doesn’t “date,” but I know once he finds the woman for him, he won’t let her go. I can’t wait to see my best friend fall hard and fast. Whoever this poor woman is, she doesn’t know what she has just unleashed.

I sit in the coffee shop across the street from the gas station. Daryl, the gas station clerk, seems to switch shifts to get off of work. Little does he know it will be the last time. By the time he leaves, it’s getting dark, so it’s easy to follow him without him detecting me. I don’t want him to go all the way home because I don’t know if there are women and children there. We wouldn’t want anyone to see me stalking him since he won’t be coming back to work tomorrow.

I wait until Daryl passes a dark alley in a part of town that doesn’t have any traffic this time of day. I grab him and pull him into the alley, injecting him in the neck with the syringe that I’m holding. He immediately goes limp and unconscious. Drugs make my life so much easier. I hate when my prey screams. This ensures he goes with me quietly. I get him to the trunk of my car and toss him in.

“Daryl, my friend, you have made a very costly mistake.” I slam the trunk, jump in my car, and drive to our warehouse, where all of my tools are.

When Daryl wakes up, he is hanging from the ceiling by chains. It’s funny because he’s looking around, completely confused about where he’s at or how he got there. I can’t help but chuckle to myself.

“Help. Man, please help me. Where am I?”

Poor Daryl hasn’t seen the gardening sheers in my hand.

“I don’t think you should scream. I don’t like it when they scream,” I gently tell him, raising my sheers.

“Man, what the fuck are you doing? Why am I here?” Daryl says in a panic.

“You looked at something you didn’t have any right to look at. Any idea what that was?”

“Man, I told the guy this morning that I was sorry. I didn’t know that she was his woman. I didn’t mean to do it. Please let me go.”

I smell urine and look at the front of Daryl’s pants, where a wet spot is spreading across the crotch and down one leg.

“Now, Daryl, I’m curious. Who is she? What did you do to piss my boss off this badly?”

Daryl cries like the little bitch that he is, and if I were a better man, then I would feel bad, but I’m not. I do want the tea on what happened with Gio and whoever this woman is. Gio doesn’t have women he cares about.

His dad has been riding his ass to get married and take over so he can retire. His mom, Val, wants grandkids to spoil. She’s even tried hooking my boy up with her friends’ kids. They are going to be over the moon to find out he’s sweet on a woman. I’m glad that shit will never happen to me. I can’t wait to see who has caught his attention.

I look at a shaking, pissy Daryl, who now has snot running down his face.

“Spill the tea, Daryl. Tell me everything that happened with my friend this morning, or this is going to be much worse for you.”

I use the sharp tip of the gardening sheers to clean under my nails while the scrawny guy hanging up begs for his life. He tells me all about how he called Gio’s woman a whore. Scoped out her ass and then commented on her not being good enough to, in his words, “wife up.”

Rolling my eyes, I let Daryl know that wasn’t smart. “Dude, you never put down another man’s woman, and why in the hell would you look at her ass?” I sigh, shaking my head. Looking at Daryl with sympathy that I don’t really feel, I step forward.

“Daryl, it’s time to pay up. You owe me your tongue for calling her a whore and your eyeballs for looking at her ass.” I give him a genuine evil smile because, to be honest, I love this shit. Blood is my middle name. Of course, the stupid fuck is screaming after I told him I didn’t like that. Shaking my head, I reach for the levers.

I lower the chains so that Daryl is almost touching the ground. As I work, I start singing “Don’t Fear the Reaper” by Blue Oyster Cult.
