“JoJo Flynn?” Preston’s eyebrows rose.

“Yes. We’re together.”

“That’s wonderful. JoJo’s great.” Deidra grinned.

“You know her?”

“Yes, my cousin Sloane owns the bakery.”

“That’s why you look familiar, even though I know I’ve never met you.”

Deidra laughed. “We all resemble each other. My sisters Lanie, Rissa, and our cousin Sloane.”

“We’d better get going, darlin’,” Preston said.

“All right. Brett, it was nice meeting you. I’m sure we’ll see each other again.” Deidra walked to the kitchen while Preston got to his feet and put his hand out to Brett.

Brett shook it. “Nice meeting you.”

Deidra returned, pulling on her coat and hat. She smiled at Brett as she took Preston’s hand, then they walked out. Brett mentally shook his head. There were a lot of beautiful women in this area. Especially one working down the street in a bakery.

After eating, he paid for his meal, left a tip, and walked out. He looked toward the bakery and crossed the street. He needed to see JoJo.

He opened the door and almost turned around. There was a long line in front of him. Taking a deep breath, he moved around them and walked to the case. When he didn’t take a number, someone yelled from the back.

“Take a number!”

Brett frowned and looked along the line, but didn’t see who said it. Some people just had to be pricks. He shook his head.

“Hey.”

He turned to see JoJo.

“Hey, baby. I had lunch at the diner. Then I decided to stop and see you. How’s your day?”

“Better now,” she said, grinning. “Do you want something?”

He raised his eyebrows. “Yes, but you can’t give that to me here.”

She gasped. “Be good, Brett Watkins!”

“I’m very good, darlin’.” He stared into her eyes.

“Okay, I’ll give you that one.”

He chuckled. “I’d better get going. I still have some shopping, so I’ll stay around until you’re ready to go.”

“Oh, I’ll be here until six. Courtney had a doctor’s appointment.”

Brett looked at his watch. “Uh, okay. I’ll take my time shopping then. I don’t enjoy doing it, but I don’t want to go home and come back.”

“There’s Walton’s in Spring City. It’s a department store. They have just about everything. Of course, there are wonderful small businesses here.”

“I’ll stick around town. I’ve always wanted to go through the stores here. I’ll see you later.”

“I’ll be here.”

He touched the brim of his hat and moved past the line of people, then out the door.
