JoJo glanced at Sloane, and she nodded.

“Yes.”

“How about going to the diner for dinner?”

“I’d love it. I’m starving. Let me get my purse and coat.”

“I’ll be here.”

She strode to him, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed his lips. He grinned when she stepped back.

“Make sure you are.” She entered the kitchen, removed her apron, pulled her coat and hat on, then got her purse from the safe. She walked back to the front to see Brett and Courtney talking.

“I’m ready.”

“Okay, let’s go eat, then head home.”

“I’ll see you Monday,” JoJo said to the women.

They said goodbye, and she and Brett walked out and crossed the street. He took her hand as they strolled along the sidewalk. She smiled, looking at the decorations in the store windows and hanging from the streetlamps.

“I love Christmas,” she said.

“It’s the best time of the year. Everyone is a little nicer,” Brett said.

When they reached the door, he pulled it open, motioned for her to enter, and followed her. They sat at the counter, and JoJo glanced around.

“Not too busy.”

“I’m surprised at that.”

“I’m sure it will be busy once people get off work or finish shopping.” She looked at him. “Are you finished now?”

“Nope. Are you?”

“Nope.”

“I just have a few things to get.”

“I just have one thing to get.”

“What?”

“I’m not telling you.”

“Oh, so it’s for me.”

“Yes, and do not ask me any more questions about it.”

Brett chuckled. “Yes, ma’am.”

The bell above the door tinkled, and JoJo looked to see Ash and Cassie Beckett entering. Cassie smiled at her when she saw her.

“Hi, JoJo.”

“Hi, Cassie. Ash. What are you two up to this evening?”

“Shopping. We got hungry. She’s had me in every store in this town,” Ash said and laughed when Cassie elbowed him.
